Opening night of HIVE where I exhibited my painting "Emergence" at Gallery North, Hailsham. This exhibition runs until 25th July. Meet the artists & hear more about their work

I responded to the theme "Hive" by exploring the bee not only as a vital force of nature, but as protector, creator, and guardian of life. Emerging from the darkness of the hollow, the queen exists between strength and vulnerability, both fierce and nurturing. The hive becomes a sanctuary, a place of shelter, labour, community, and survival. Through layered glazes and shifting light, the work reflects both the fragility and resilience of the natural world.

The Gallery is open Tuesday - Wednesday 10am to 1 pm and Thursday - Saturday 10am to 4pm.

A little something tropical to send some cheer and brighten up a dull day! Looking for a new home for this pair of lovebirds I painted last year. 🦜

This is an original oil painting on stretched canvas 20 x 16 inches, painted using the subtraction method — a technique also used by some of the old masters where paint is removed as well as added to create light and form.

I will show you a timelapse video in the next post to show you how I did this and how the painting evolved in layers.

A short timelapse of a recent painting — a sunset sky over distant blue mountains.

This piece came together slowly, in layers, and has a real sense of calm to it.

I’ve had a small run of prints made, and I’m gently exploring the idea of offering them more widely. For now, I just wanted to share the finished work and the process behind it. 🎨
