After a week of intense work whilst not feeling well I’m glad I found the energy to take a long walk this morning with my camera. It cleared the mind and opened my heart. I found a viewpoint to sit near Butts Brow and pen a few words of what it felt to be present with myself again.
🍃Present once more
I sit above this town,
sun warm on my shoulders,
the view before me laid open
like a page I haven’t finished reading.
A gentle wind moves through the trees under which i sit,
Its breath cooling the heat,
carrying the scent of chalk and summer.
Somewhere above me, a buzzard or two circles, slowly, patient,
their cries connecting the sky
to the earth beneath my feet.
Eastbourne town shimmers in the distance,
rooftops glinting,
sea breathing its long, silver waves.
In this moment, nothing needs to change.
The day is enough.
The light is enough.
I am enough.
And the view holds me,
A reminder of those strange times before
when I sat here in the midst of lockdown
and quietly, giving permission,
letting go, letting me rest
in the simple truth
of being here.
