Members’ Evening 13th April

A hands‑on night at the club, with committee members sharing different sides of photography.

President Alan Burkwood talked composition, with books and prints on display and plenty of discussion about what judges often look for.

Secretary Jenny Smith demonstrated mount‑cutting techniques and answered questions about producing competition‑ready prints.

Lee Dalgleish revisited his recent Lightroom session, showing how he builds an efficient workflow and even rescued a “hopeless” bird photo in a live edit.

We also looked at ways to use our images:
• Mike Vickers brought a calendar made from his bird photography
• Ben Searson showed how monochrome work can be turned into books and magazines

Next week is our final meeting of the season — the AGM and trophy presentations for 2025–26.

Full details of the current season’s events are on the club web site: http://www.retford-photographic.co.uk/ the new programme for the 2026 – 2027 programme will appear over the summer and will start in early September.

Meetings: Mondays, 7.30pm, St Joseph’s Hall, Babworth Road, Retford.

Art for the Untalented - Colin Lusby

On Monday 30th March we were treated to an entertaining and impressive evening from Colin Lusby and his wife Janice. Colin’s mix of humour, storytelling and excellent prints covered everything from Grimsby Docks and creative composites (including his famous Harry the Haddock and toy dinosaurs!) to birds, waterfalls, bad weather on Skye and more. His passion for printing and his thoughtful approach to judging really shone through.

It was a relaxed, friendly night and we hope to see Colin and Janice again soon.

A great night at Bolsover!
Last Friday 27th March, four of our members enjoyed a warm welcome on our reciprocal visit to Bolsover Camera Club, where our work went down really well. Thank you to the club members who attended.

Next up after Easter: Members’ Night, followed by the AGM and trophy presentations.
