2nd April is World Autism Awareness Day ❤️

Our son Henry is 6 years old and autistic. He was diagnosed at 3. He had words, and then he went silent. Years of speech therapy have taught us that he is a gestalt language processor and communicates through echolalia, and every single word he says matters.

Henry lives with ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), which means his diet is extremely limited. This isn’t him being “fussy” or “picky” - he will not eat if he doesn’t have access to his safe foods. It’s not a choice, it’s not behaviour - it’s a condition that affects how he experiences food, and something we navigate every single day.

Henry tiptoe walks, which causes him daily pain in his feet and legs. When he plays, he often has to stop and sit down because his little body just can’t keep going. He wears AFO day splints and night splints, which he finds really hard due to discomfort. We have just been told his range of movement has significantly decreased, and he may now be facing 8 weeks of serial casting or surgery.

After a full school day, Henry is completely dysregulated from masking/camoflaging - holding it together in an environment that doesn’t always meet his needs. When he comes home, he needs to decompress in the only way his body knows how, which is usually sitting quietly watching TV to regulate.

Because of this, he cannot attend after-school clubs. He is exhausted. Things many children his age do - football at the weekend, the park or clubs after school - just aren’t accessible to him right now. I hope that one day they will be.

His autistic meltdowns can be extreme, and he can also experience shutdowns where he physically cannot move. This isn’t defiance - it’s a neurological “freeze” response where his body simply won’t cooperate, even if he wants it to.

We are currently in the long and exhausting process of trying to secure an EHCP for Henry. Recently, he was declined even a needs assessment - how is that even possible given everything he faces daily?

This is the reality of autism for us.

Hello! I’ve had so many new followers recently that I thought it about time I reintroduced myself. I’m Kathryn - the smiling face behind the camera 📸

I’m a business branding, family, newborn and wedding photographer, and Life Stories videographer based in East Grinstead, working across the South East and London. I help businesses show up confidently with strategic imagery, and families preserve the moments that matter most - because your story deserves to be seen, remembered, and cherished.

I’m Mummy to our two boys, Henry age 6 and Theo age 4 and wife to my husband Justin. Our home is lively, busy and full of trains, Lego, and love. Life is full of adventures usually at a steam railway somewhere, or planning our next trip to Disneyland Paris! I’m a hopeless romantic, love to dance, theatre lover, karaoke enthusiast, mojito fan, and I believe photos should feel like memories - not stiff poses.

My Life Stories films are the most personal thing I create. They’re gentle, filmed conversations that preserve a person’s voice, stories, laughter and memories for the people who love them - because one day the photographs will still be there, but hearing their voice and the way they tell their story will mean everything.

Losing my Mum to cancer when she was just 55, when I was 23, changed the way I see photographs forever. That kind of heartbreak never really leaves you. It’s why I’m such a firm believer that everyone deserves to be in the frame - especially mums who are so often behind the camera. One day, those photographs become some of the most precious things you have.

At the heart of everything I do is connection. Real people. Real stories. Real moments.

This week, I launched something incredibly personal to me.

Life Stories.

A filmed, sit-down conversation capturing the stories, memories, and voice of the people you love - in their own words. 🎥💛

Because one day, photos won’t be enough.

We lost my mum when I was 23. She was only 55. There are so many things I wish I could still ask her. So many stories I wish I could hear again. So many moments I wish I could go back and listen to more closely. 💛

Signing off for Christmas 🎄✨

Since 1st November I’ve photographed a grand total of 200 shoots and I thought it was about time I shared a selection of some of them🎄😁📸

While weddings 💍 and business branding will always be a huge part of what I do, there is something so incredibly special about photographing families together at Christmas 🎅🎄

The cuddles, the laughter, the chaos, the togetherness. These moments are so special.
