Castlerigg Stone Circle, The Lake District

Castlerigg Stone Circle is more than just a place to me ? it feels deeply spiritual, peaceful and grounding. Surrounded by 360 degrees of valleys, fells and mountains, the atmosphere is truly unique and calming.

Standing among the ancient stones brings mindfulness, reflection and a powerful connection to nature and history. At sunset, when golden light falls across the landscape, Castlerigg becomes even more magical, timeless and breathtaking. It is one of the most special places I have ever experienced.

Built around 3000 BCE during the Neolithic period, making it over 4,000 years old.
The circle originally consisted of about 40 large stones, many sourced locally from volcanic rock.

Castlerigg is considered one of the most visually dramatic stone circles in Europe because of its setting among the fells:
Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Blencathra

Dearham, Cumbria

None, other than it's one of our morning walks. This particular walk is an old lonning, now closed to traffic and a favourite walk for dog walkers from around the village. Nestled nicely on the edge of The Lake District National Park. Lovely view of the mountains. This particular morning i decided to take photo's of flowers, a bit of Macro.. something I don't normally pay attention to. This one of a seeded Dandelion

Durham, near Croxdale

This was one of the first images I took with a macro lens, a honeybee was busy cleaning itself on our buddleia and I had no idea at the time exactly what it was doing until I saw the image on the computer?amazing how macro opens up this huge world, invisible to our every day senses?

Praying Hands of Mary, Glen Lyon, Perthshire

The Praying Hands of Mary, or Fionn's Rock, is a 16-foot-high, split rock formation in Glen Lyon, Scotland, that resembles hands in prayer. Located in Perthshire, this natural landmark (likely a glacial erratic) stands about 600m up from the glen floor, offering panoramic views. Legend says the Irish warrior Fionn mac Cumhaill (Fingal) split it with an arrow, while others view it as a holy site, with the gap representing praying hands and marking ancient tales of plague and folklore. The Legend of Fionn (Fingal)The Hero?s Arrow: According to Gaelic folklore, the legendary hero Fionn mac Cumhaill was hunting a boar in the glen. He fired an arrow that narrowly missed the boar but hit the rock with such immense force that it split the massive stone in two.
