Meet Katya. Last year Katya wrote a letter to Saint Nicholas from her home in the Ukraine and told her dad all she wished for.

On February the 24th her life changed. Dad sent Katya with her sister and grandmother to the UK, and volunteered himself to defend the Ukraine.

Katya dreamed of returning home, to live as a family again, to see her school friends and return to life as she had known it.

Tragically, Katya only flew in for a few days this summer to say goodbye to her dad. Her dad, her hero, who died in Zaporozhye, protecting the home of his children.

Now Katya and her grandmother live in Scotland. They weave bracelets to sell to support the Ukraine military.

I was honoured to meet Katya a few days before Christmas and we had some fun taking pictures. What a truly amazing child. Katya has the most energetic and fun spirit and I think it shows through in her images.

The kids and I did our first "backpacking" trip this summer - ok, I carried the backpacks, they trailed along behind me echoing "are we there yet?". But hey, it was a great time, an amazing adventure and we did it. Turin to Venice to Florence to Rome to Pisa to La Spezia and back to Turin. 14 nights of pure joy. Thank you Italy. And as you can imagine, I took a few pictures. Here are the first bunch. I hope you like them.
