Due to the effects of Covid-19 we have had to close the doors on Studio X permanently. We are continuing to offer retouching, illustration and commercial photography services from our new location and we are in the process of updating all platforms.

Retouching is often seen as smoothing out skin on beauty shots or over the top gradings on automotive images, but often the biggest challenge can be completely altering a shot while keeping it feeling natural.

This was an image I worked on last year for my friends at Forest Garden.

A few people said to me about my recent retouching post that I needed to show before and after, so as I’ve been tinkering with InShot on my iPad i thought I’d try a video. It’s a great little app, I may have to do some more of these. I did consider adding some music but wasn’t sure it wouldn’t just be annoying 🤷‍♂️

I was asked to work on the cover for Ian Danter's new solo album 'Rule of Three' back in December which involved pushing myself to do 9 caricatures, something I've never excelled at, but I took it as a challenge and am actually pleased with the results.

They all appear quite small on the cover but I couldn't resist working up this larger one from my preliminary sketches of Ian himself 😁

Today marks the first anniversary of From Dimension X moving to our new office.

2020 was an awful year for us and at the beginning of 2021 it seemed that it was only going to get worse. We moved to the new place just a stone's throw from home, half convinced that we'd only be here a few months before the business collapsed.

Thankfully things improved greatly and we ended up working on a host of interesting and varied jobs. Retouching everything from Burgers to Bentleys, working on not one but two classic British motorcycle brands, doing increasingly more illustration, a handful of product shoots, even a return to logo design and art working which we'd not done in ages.

Many thanks to all the friends and clients that supported us over what could easily have been our final year. Here's to many more.

From Dimension X has moved! Though admittedly not far.

Over the weekend we shunted all of our equipment up a couple of floors in The Biz Hub Dudley to a slightly bigger and brighter room. 6 hours and a lot of sweating (plus a little swearing) later we were all set up and ready to go. It's going to make a huge difference being able to shoot small tabletop items without having to move things around or run my chair into the tripod. Plus there's also the fact that we are closer to the nice meeting room spaces in the Biz Lounge.

It's not often I get asked to design logos lately so these were a refreshing change, done for a guitar equipment and repair shop.

It started life as a sketch in Procreate which I worked up in photoshop to draw the lettering etc before finishing it off in Illustrator.
