The bit no one see’s in self employment and freelance work.

It’s Thursday. 7:15pm. Our son is in bed. My wife is chilling watching TV after looking after him all day. I’ve been working since 5:45am, and still have a todo list longer than my arm.

The bank account can barely fund a holiday to Butlins after all the bills are paid. The weekend feels like it’s needed but an inconvenience to getting on top of a list that’s impossible to complete.

Client shoots need planning. Content needs editing. Reports need reading, sending and adjusting strategy too.

Camera needs charging.
SD cards need sorting.

And you’re on your own to do it.

Tomorrow morning I’ll be up at 5:15am to try get a workout in before work. I have two shoots before lunch time. Then an afternoon of trying to sort for the weekend, before our weekend shoot.

Am I moaning? No. I wouldn’t change the hustle for the world.

But I think it’s important to reality check the social norm we have of self employed life and social media management being this easy job that anyone can do. Because it’s tough, it’s hard. I probably nearly quit 2 times a month.

But we keep going, because I love this business, I love our clients and I believe in the work.

So when someone says ‘it’s just taking photos and posting’ it’s alot more than that and it always will be.

Anyway, back to CapCut.

Just be honest - we can’t make you more money but we can generate the tools and people and leads you need to make that money.

Social media is a search engine that drives buying decision. The store, venue or website is still ultimately the final deal closer. We just make you present, consistent and strategise how you appear to people to drive that decision towards where we want it.

Details in event photography like weddings are one of our favourite parts. With story telling being the back bone of everything we do on social media and production it does tend to seep into the events we cover aswell like weddings.

We limit ourselves to a handful of weddings each year, but the ones we do, we love.

The reality of running an agency. It’s not alway freedom and leisure. Yes we have amazing results. Yes we have grown every client we have ever worked with. Yes we love what we do. But businesses face challenges that are out of our control and sometimes that is just what it is.

Then? The fix falls on myself to source and find. Ultimately that’s the bottom line. When you build your own path, no one’s coming to fix the pot hole.

A marketer who tells you YOU don’t need social media?! WHAT THE FRICK!

Genuinely, you might not. Are you fishing in the right pond? Marketing was never a blanket ‘do this’ and having a few apps on our phone doesn’t change that. YES it’s a good tool to have but social media marketing may not be THE tool you need.
