Corona Overhead

When I could see the corona clearly overhead I went a few metres downhill so that I could be sure I'd get both the Mourne Wall and the corona in the frame. The moon had set, the sky was pristine and the conditions for astrophotography were just perfect

I have so many photos from that night. I will put a few more up here or maybe on my Twitter/instagram. Keep an eye out next couple of days. Thank you all for your kind comments and likes. I really appreciate them all

Mourne Mountains Aurora

The scene at 12.28pm last night. The Corona was overhead and pulsating intensely. The sky was ever changing with incredible pattern and colour. I felt privileged to see this - an amazing natural wonder in this place of outstanding beauty.

This photo is a panorama showing 180 degrees of my view pointing south. I love the night sky and standing under this display was probably my best ever night sky experience

Catching a Meteor

I got lucky on Saturday night and caught one of the brightest meteors I've ever seen on camera. Don't know if you saw it also. Its was around 10.20pm.

Grianan Aurora - (Panoramic view)

This photo is a panoramic view of the sky above Grianan in the early hours of the 11th May. It's a combination of six vertical images as that was what was needed to capture the extent of what was happening above me. I've added a few of the previous aurora photos & other panoramas to my website. Thank you for all your interest and support!

Grianan Aurora

After my amazing time at Tullagh Bay I decided it was time to head towards home. The night was just too good and I had a shot in mind that I'd always wanted - the aurora over Grianan. When I arrived at Grianan the sky was fairly quiet. I read some stats and knew something big was minutes away. That was the motivation I needed. The aurora so strong that yet again it was appearing in the southern sky!. When i took this shot around 3.10am I could see twilight to the North East. The birds were already singing. It was time to think about going home.

Watching the Aurora - At Tullagh Bay

The sky changed continually throughout the night & the main action seemed to stretch mostly between the NE and the SW. - (a whole 180 degrees) It was hard to know where to photograph and thankfully I took the decision to make a few panoramas of the scene. I have other compositions with just the beach but I really liked this shot (even if it is like my previous one). I have a few more shot to show. After a few hours at Tullagh I decided to head up to Grianan. I'd always wanted a decent aurora photo there and as luck would have it I now do :)
