For the woman who built her business around school drop-offs and pick-ups.

Who started it during nap times, or in the evenings after everyone was in bed.

Who’d spent years putting everyone else first and finally decided it was her turn.

Or who had a career that looked good on paper but slowly stopped feeling like her.

You figured it out. You kept showing up. You built something real, from scratch, around a life that didn’t stop to make it easy.

Here’s what I see a lot. Women who have done all that, who are genuinely brilliant at what they do, yet showing up online with photos that don’t come close to reflecting it.

Not because they don’t care, it somehow got pushed to the bottom of the list. For many reasons; it felt indulgent, or premature or like vanity.

But your photos are often the first impression someone gets of you. Before they’ve read a word of what you’ve written or the wonderful reviews you have.

You’ve worked too hard for that first impression to see you short.

Tell me below, what made you take the leap to start your business? Every story I hear is different and I love hearing them all.

After a few conversations recently I think it’s important to share this message again.

You’re doing better than you think.

It’s easy to focus on what’s not done, such as the posts you haven’t written, the emails you haven’t sent and the big plans still sitting on your to-do list.

But pause for a moment.

You’ve built something from scratch.
You’ve learned, adapted and kept showing up even when it felt uncomfortable.

That’s growth.
That’s success.

You don’t need to hit every goal to be proud of how far you’ve come ❤️

What I love is supporting local businesses. This afternoon we visited for their Sip and Savour event.

Sitting in the vineyard enjoying a glass (or two!) of their home grown Bacchus and pizza from surrounded by beautiful poppies, made for the perfect afternoon.

Go check out to get in the loop for future events.

Can I say something I think a lot of us need to hear?

You are allowed to be seen exactly as you are.

Not with a new wardrobe. Not a stone lighter. Not once you’ve figured out your ‘look’ or feel more confident or have a better hair day.

Right now. As you are.

I know so many brilliant, talented women who are hiding behind their businesses because they don’t feel ready to be seen. Or they don’t see the reason why they need to be. And it breaks my heart a little, because the one thing that would make the biggest difference to their business is simply them. Their face. Their personality. Their story.

It’s that cliche, people buy from people. You already know that. So the most powerful thing you can do for your business is to let people see you.

You don’t have to love having your photo taken. Most of my clients actually don’t. Well, right up until the moment they do.

You just have to be willing to show up. I’ll take care of everything else x

Every business owner has a story. Where the business started, how it’s evolved, where it is now.

It will be completely unique and special to that business owner. Their journey is theirs alone and a story worth telling.

I help you do this through imagery. That’s what Brand Photography is all about.

Here’s a series of images of Laura from She does such an incredible job supporting our young people through trauma informed practices. Go check her out.

She has a beautiful, tranquil room on the Cambridgeshire border for in person visits.

The therapies address issues such as pain, grief, anxiety, stress, fears, overwhelm, body confidence and menopause symptoms to name a few.

I wish business owners would stop doing this.

Using images without really thinking about them.

A stock photo here, a blurry selfie there, something grabbed off Google, a random snapshot from three years ago! All mixed together across a website and social media that looks like it belongs to about four different people.

I understand you’re running a business and images can feel like the last thing in your list. You just need something up there.

But here’s what those images are doing while you’re not thinking about them:

They’re meeting your potential clients before you do. If they’re inconsistent, poor quality or just don’t look anything like you and your brand, they’re telling a story you probably don’t want told. “I threw this together.” “I’m not quite sure what I’m about.” “I’m not ready for you yet.”

Intentional images do the opposite. They show up consistently, they speak directly to the person you want to work with, and they build trust.

You don’t need a lot, you just need the right ones used with purpose.

That’s exactly what a brand shoot gives you.

If this has made you look at your own images differently m, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

When I talk to clients I always use the term ‘Image Smart’. But not everyone knows what I mean by that so I thought I’d explain.

As business owners we need to share images on our social media, websites and marketing materials. In order to be Image Smart I advise my clients to consider all the questions their customers are asking. Then answer those questions with images.

Do you hold in person sessions? Answer that with images of you delivering your service in person.

Do you bake all your products yourself? Yep and here’s an image of me actually baking.

Do you see young children? Here’s an image of me working with a small child.

People tend to retain 65% of visual information compared to only 10% of written text. Which is why it’s so important to use our images carefully and express the things we want our audience to remember.

Hope you found this useful. Any questions? Ask away….
