I wasn’t sad, I just needed a family session in the sun.

This one wasn’t golden hour - the light was brighter and higher than I’d usually pick - but that’s real life with young children. You go when they’re at their best, not when the light is. So I found the shade, worked with what the evening gave us, and let the kids just be themselves.

If you’re thinking about an outdoor session, the timing matters more than people realise, let’s talk to find the best time for your family! 🤍

Your baby’s hand in a photo? Lovely. Both of them at once? Now we’re talking.

Four kids. One set of boxes. About ten seconds where all of them were upright, facing forwards and all happy. That’s the whole job, really.

And this one is real - they were genuinely all there, at the same time, in that moment. No stitching four separate photos together and hoping nobody spots it. Just fast shooting and lots of enthusiasm and encouragement (some bribery) from me and their lovely mummy.

What wasn’t there by magic was a seamless background and mum staying out of shot. So here’s what happened after:

• My preset applied, then adjusted where needed
• Extended the background so I didn’t lose any feet when cropping
• Straightened up (when your session is that quick paced sometimes the best photos might not be the straightest)
• Mum removed (she was doing sterling work keeping the littlest safe)

That last bit used to take me an age. AI has made the tidying side so much quicker than it was five years ago, and I’ll happily take the help.

But there’s a line. AI can tidy a real moment. What it can’t do is have the moment for you. Something generated from scratch might look close at first glance - but it’s not your children, and it’s not a day that happened. This one did. And that’s the bit that still takes a real room, a real camera and four small people holding it together for exactly long enough. 🤍

I nearly talked myself out of The Creative Recharge.

I still feel like a fraud at times. I don’t always introduce myself as a photographer when someone asks, and I wasn’t sure I’d fit in with proper photographers. But I took the leap and it was so worth it.

It reminded me of the things I should be investing in, and reflecting on myself and my work is a big one. I learnt so much from the workshops and made a few new friends along the way ☺️☺️

I can’t wait to go again and get properly stuck in by staying over for the nights. I might even be brave enough to stay naked in a field long enough to make the final photo next time 🍑🤭

A few fabulous days that reminded me why I do this. And I’ve got plenty more to give.

Thank you Jade The Creative Recharge

There’s a reason I often move in a little closer.

Tight framing removes the distractions and brings all of the attention back to what matters - the way your baby fits against you, the tiny features, the protective hands and those quiet expressions between you.

It is a deliberate part of how I photograph newborn sessions, creating images that feel intimate without needing to be overly posed.

I will always capture the wider family portraits too, but these close-up frames are often the ones that hold the most feeling - and remind you just how tiny they once were.

Why bring a blanket from home to your newborn session?

A familiar blanket can be such a simple little comfort for your baby during their session.

• It smells like home and the people they know best
• It can help them feel safe and settled in a new environment
• We can use it while feeding, cuddling or soothing between photographs
• It adds something personal to your gallery
• Years from now, you may remember that blanket just as much as their tiny toes

I have plenty of beautiful neutral blankets in the studio, but you are always welcome to bring a favourite from home too - especially one your baby already finds comforting.

Sometimes the smallest familiar thing can make the biggest difference 🤍

When your first birthday lands in a heatwave… sitting around in your nappy, eating cake and finishing with a cool splash sounds like a pretty perfect way to celebrate ☀️🎂🛁

A cake smash and splash session is messy, joyful and full of personality - exactly how a first birthday photoshoot should be.

Tag someone with a little one turning one soon 🤍
