The 6040 Workshop

The 6040 Workshop North Cornwall artists creating work in mixed media art, printmaking, glass & photography. The distinctive blue colour reflects the light beautifully.

We are inspired by the beautiful Cornish coastline and love finding ways to recycle single use plastics, glass & household packaging in our work 💚 We are situated on the rugged North coast of Cornwall 5 minutes from the sea and facing the Atlantic Ocean. We decided on a name for our workshop after splitting it into 2 sections. Karin has the front 40% section and Dave does his wood-turning and othe

r makes in the 60%

Dave has been busy designing and making his unique pens and perfecting the process of recycling our household plastics and turning them into beautifully crafted pens. He has also been working with wood, acrylic, resin and polymer clay incorporating and fabricating other materials into the pen shaft. Dave's latest project involves using Bombay Gin bottles to make bespoke jewellery. We are both photographers and love getting out and about with the old film cameras including the medium formats. We both seem to veer towards experimenting with alternative processes including cyanotype, image transfer & darkroom techniques. We both have a background in the creative arts having worked in Further Education for many years lecturing in Art & Design and Photography.

We (LSA’s) won the staff workroom Christmas tree competition!! It had to be decorated with recycled/used things and nothing new. The tree is a discarded palette and the found objects and driftwood (carved into fish) are collected from Par and Trevone beaches alongside rope, netting and found debris.

Dave has been up the workshop this week and turned a piece of antler bought at a car boot sale. Pewter fittings with the Knight’s Temple style. ‘Tintagel’ pen.
Very tactile with the texture left on the barrel.
