Happy World Photography Day! 🌍📸

I'm celebrating this year's Photography Day in a photographers paradise, as I'm currently in Fuvahmulah in the Maldives with Fuvahmulah Central Dive Center

We've only been here a few days and to say this place is unreal for photographers would be an understatement!

Photography is so important in conveying a message, telling a story. It can shift perspectives, and can generate pressure for change.

Photographers are at the forefront of change and images are often really powerful in their use, and it's amazing to see the changes that have happened thanks to photography.

The Deep always delivers 🌊🐬

When out with Pembrokeshire Boat Charters last week we had a rare es**rt out to the deep, Pelagic Bottlenose Dolphins. These are an open ocean population of Bottlenose Dolphins.

They live out their entire lives in the open ocean, and differ from coastal populations by being larger in size, at an average of 4m in length. They're also darker in coloration and have different social structures.

To see some of the rare and exciting species we have around our coastlines come out on one of our Shark trips out to the Celtic Deep.

World Conservation Day 🌍🦋

Today, on World Conservation Day, we're reminded that every species—big or small—plays a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance of our planet's ecosystems. From pollinators that help grow our food to forests that shelter countless animals, biodiversity is the foundation of a healthy, thriving Earth.

Sadly, habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and unsustainable practices are putting countless species at risk. Every extinction is more than the loss of a single animal or plant—it's the loss of an irreplaceable part of our natural world and a reminder of how deeply connected we all are.

Conservation isn't just about protecting wildlife; it's about safeguarding the ecosystems that support all life, including our own. By choosing sustainable practices, reducing waste, restoring habitats, and supporting conservation efforts, we can help ensure that future generations inherit a planet rich in biodiversity.

Every action, no matter how small, has the power to create lasting change. Together, let's protect the incredible species we share this world with and work towards a future where nature can flourish.

Because when we protect nature, we protect our future. 🌿💙

This photograph has been a dream image of mine ever since I was a child, an Oceanic Whitetip shark cruising through the blue, surrounded by a shoal of pilotfish. 📸🦈

I still can't believe it's taken me so long to share it. Even now, throughout my photography career, this remains my favourite image I've ever captured.

The Oceanic Whitetip is one of the most instantly recognisable shark species, it has become a powerful symbol for the challenges facing sharks and rays across our oceans.

Photography & Videography has an incredible ability to tell stories and inspire people. A single image can create a connection, spark curiosity, and remind us why these animals—and the ecosystems they inhabit—are worth protecting.

I was so incredibly proud to see this image being used by the at the Dive Show this year during their talk, and also as one of the banner images for their Oceanic Shark campaign. Knowing it's being used to represent the species is something I'm very proud of!

Shark Awareness Day 🦈

Ever since I've been a child I've been obsessed by this spectacular group of animals. Everything about them is a marvel in evolutionary biology and engineering.

It's important to see these animals for what they are, an animal. For far too long they have been persecuted as villians of the deep. Even the word shark is belived to come from the dutch word "Schurk" that stands for villian or scoundrel.

They're deeply interconnected within our oceans ecosystems, with relationships to species that we're only just beginning to understand.

This awe-inspiring group encompass everything from the White Shark, and Hammerhead, down to the Viper Dogfish and Weasel Shark. All are equally effective predators and equally important in our oceans food webs.

For them to continue long into our future, they need stable protections and for more of us to understand them.

They have survived for over 450 million years, and they deserve to be here for millions of years to come.

We need a healthy ocean, and a healthy ocean needs sharks! 🌊🦈

July really is a Shark filled month, with loads of exceptional days and events that revolve around Sharks & Rays. 🦈

As it is BIAZA official Shark Awareness Week. I thought it fair to start with an aquarium appreciation post.

Zoos's and aquariums are vital institutions that help to spread awareness to the plight of this exceptional group of animals.

They help to shift perspectives and allow the public to see these animals up close, without them having to fly halfway across the globe.

I have personally seen the effects these places can have on conservation during my time working in the aquarium industry over the last near two decades.

All of these images were taken at Blue Planet Aquarium in the main shark exhibit.

What you see Vs What I see 📸👀

Looking back to what is still my favourite wildlife encounter.

Oceanic Whitetip Sharks are an iconic shark species, famous for their curious and confident nature, making them outstanding photography subjects.

It's always so good as a photographer to get some footage/photographs of you doing what you love!

I thought it would be a nice comparison to show what you see vs what I see through the lens.

Thank you so much for the footage! 🤙🦈

Happy World Reef Day to start off world ocean month 🌍🐟

Coral Reefs cover 1% of the seafloor, and are the most diverse marine habitat with them harbouring over 25% of all marine species. They act as a vital habitat for many species life history, acting as places to socilise, mate/breed and be cleaned by reef fish.

They're also vital to many people who live on the coast, providing food and essential jobs as divers, and skippers in the diving industry. To put it into perspective the Red Sea where all of these images were taken bring in an estimated $36 billion every year.

I'm looking forward to exploring some coral reefs in a few weeks time, and to seeing the incredible species that call it home! 🦈

Endangered Species Day 🌍🦏🐸🦈

A day to highlight some of the worlds incredible species that we stand to lose.

Some species have fallen by a staggering 99% with only a few key strongholds for the species left.

states that more than 48,600 species are threatened with extinction across all categories (Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered). Around 15% of species that are classed as Critically Endangered have less than 50 mature individuals left.

There is still hope for these species. With history showing many species bouncing back from the brink, but what they need is a well executed lead by all nations to limit the trade of endangered species and their products.

There’s still a lot left worth fighting for - Dr Jane Goodall

Celebrating 100 years to the man himself !

I spent most of my childhood watching documentaries with David, with the first series of The Blue Planet being the series that skyrocketed my passion for the marine world. 🦈🐳

The way that he brings nature to our screens is nothing short of sensational, and it's incredible to see the impact he's had on the next generation of wildlife conservationists worldwide.

"We are at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet, and never before have we had the power to do something about that".

Thank you for everything you have done for Planet Earth, and Happy 100th Birthday Sir David Attenborough!
