Happy World Reef Day to start off world ocean month 🌍🐟

Coral Reefs cover 1% of the seafloor, and are the most diverse marine habitat with them harbouring over 25% of all marine species. They act as a vital habitat for many species life history, acting as places to socilise, mate/breed and be cleaned by reef fish.

They're also vital to many people who live on the coast, providing food and essential jobs as divers, and skippers in the diving industry. To put it into perspective the Red Sea where all of these images were taken bring in an estimated $36 billion every year.

I'm looking forward to exploring some coral reefs in a few weeks time, and to seeing the incredible species that call it home! 🦈

One of my favourite images, of one of my favourite species. 🐟

The Napoleon Wrasse, otherwise known as the Humphead Wrasse or Maori Wrasse, is a very large reef fish species, with some reaching up to 7.5 feet in length.

They eat a range of different animals, such as hard-shelled molluscs, octopus, fish and sea urchins.

They're also are protogynous hermaphrodites, meaning they are all born female. Around the age of 9 to 15 years, some of the largest females undergo a s*x change to become males, triggered by the disappearance of a dominant male in their harem.

Endangered Species Day 🌍🦏🐸🦈

A day to highlight some of the worlds incredible species that we stand to lose.

Some species have fallen by a staggering 99% with only a few key strongholds for the species left.

states that more than 48,600 species are threatened with extinction across all categories (Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered). Around 15% of species that are classed as Critically Endangered have less than 50 mature individuals left.

There is still hope for these species. With history showing many species bouncing back from the brink, but what they need is a well executed lead by all nations to limit the trade of endangered species and their products.

There’s still a lot left worth fighting for - Dr Jane Goodall

Celebrating 100 years to the man himself !

I spent most of my childhood watching documentaries with David, with the first series of The Blue Planet being the series that skyrocketed my passion for the marine world. 🦈🐳

The way that he brings nature to our screens is nothing short of sensational, and it's incredible to see the impact he's had on the next generation of wildlife conservationists worldwide.

"We are at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet, and never before have we had the power to do something about that".

Thank you for everything you have done for Planet Earth, and Happy 100th Birthday Sir David Attenborough!

Had a spectacular day over the weekend snorkelling with Puffins at Skomer Island with

It's always so humbling to see the spectacular diversity of wildlife we have around the UK, especially in an MPA that is as well managed as the Skomer Marine Conservation Zone.

Skomer is exceptionally well managed, from monitoring peoples behaviour with the Puffins to minimise disturbance, even limiting how many people can land on Skomer per year to ensure the wellbeing and future of wildlife on Skomer.

Thank you so much to for having me, it's always incredible to get out on the water with you! 🐧

When telling people that we have sharks here in the UK, it's often met with gasps. But in the UK we have more than 60 species of elasmobranch with over 40 species of sharks. For some, the UK is the species stronghold.

Blue Sharks are arguably one of our most iconic, with their blue colouration and curious nature, they're a true sight to behold.

These sharks are a true pelagic specialist, feeding on fish and squid. They are known for expansive, clockwise migrations across the Atlantic Ocean, often moving between the Americas and Europe/Africa. Some tagged individuals have shown incredible journeys, with studies reporting migrations extending up to an estimated 28,139 km.
