Venezia, Italy.

Mrs H had a big birthday on 4th September, so to mark it as a special birthday, unbeknown to Mrs H, I'd arranged to take her to Venice for 4 nights, just the two of us, as a surprise 😘

My parents came up the day before we flew and looked after our girls and Thor (doggo) while we were away. Thank you so much, I'm very grateful for this 🥰

We both had an amazing 4 nights away, just taking in the sights and Venetian cuisine and laid back ways. I'd love to go back one day before it sinks and is no more, but next time I'd take my girls so they could experience Venice for themselves.

This image was taken from a bridge 100 meters from our hotel on the way to dinner on our last night of the trip.

With sunset around the time of our meal reservation, I popped my camera over my shoulder just in case, boy am I glad I did.

I think its safe to say if we didn't have reservation, we might not have got to eating until much later 😁

Anyway enough of my rambling.

Hello,

Firstly thank you for all of your kind messages on my previous post, they are very much appreciated 🥰

I've managed to have a look at my images from the trip into the Lammermuir hills with Paul Masterton a week or two ago now.

As you can see the heather was in full bloom and I managed to snap a couple of frames, bonus!

First image is a meadow pippit with some snacks, the other two images are the famous red grouse, which I just love to photograph.

Taken with Canon R5 | Canon RF100-500 | ISO250 | 1/400 | f/7.1 | 500mm

Thanks and enjoy the rest of your weekend

I'm still here, however the 500mm f4 has gone, I sent it away on Monday.

I still have a wildlife set-up and will still get out as and when I can, or feel like I want to.

On Tuesday of this week I'd made a promise to get my good friend Paul Masterton out for a few hours. SO with this is mind I collected him early doors and we headed to the Lammermuir Hills to see if the heather was in bloom and if we could get any red grouse, before heading across to the Musselburgh lagoons to see what was showing.

Sitting in the hide, I was lucky enough to have this heron drop in to the right of me.

I think I managed a few good frames during the day, this being one of them.

I'll try to spend some time going through my images at some point and will post more over the coming weeks.

Good evening, firstly apologies I've been rather quiet, life's been a bit busy in a good way and tbh I'm going through a bit of a rut with my photography and not feeling very motivated of late.

Sometimes it's good to just take some time out.

Speaking of which, I have just been away for a few days with the "lads" which was great.

I took the camera....just incase I felt like going out, however I never did.

I did capture this rather colourful pheasant though as I was sitting by the riverside with a beer.

Canon R5 and 100-500 RF lens.

A few more images of the Ospreys I was watching yesterday for around an hour and a half.

After my dissapointing start to the day with the black grouse lek, I was able to capture some mountain hare images on the way back from the lekking site.

However, i'm not sure what come over me but as I was setting up for the ospreys, for some unknown reason I decided to format my card...... it was just going to be one of those days. At this point I was so thankful I hadn't had a brilliant morning with the grouse and lost all of my images.

I also fell into a stream in one of the glens on the way home, sometimes things just go that way, anyway it gives me a tale to tell at least and something to laugh about looking back.

Osprey, my first of the season

Yesterday afternoon I headed up north to the highlands with a specific trip lined up, to try and capture the behaviour of black grouse displaying at a lek.

With only 1.5 hours sleep, I was picked up at 4am and sitting patiently in a pop up hide in total darkness in readiness for the arrival of the birds. However..... all didn't go quite to plan. Thats nature and wildlife for you.

Not to be too disheartened I headed along to a spot I knew to see if any Ospreys had arrived and taken residence in the nest on site.

As I arrived I was greeted by two people making me aware the pair of ospreys had not long left...... signs of the day so far not looking great....

I set-up my camera on the tripod and waited for around an hour. It wasn't too long before there were a pair of ospreys overhead calling to each other.

I managed to snap this one as it was coming back onto the nest with a partially eaten jack pike.

I'm absolutely shattered tonight so an early bed and back to the grind tomorrow.

Three random pictures from the last couple of years.

Digital format is really great, however, I do miss the sense of connection you get from seeing something printed. I must print more for myself and do more of my own books of images.

I will be heading up to the Cairngorms on Sunday night, with an early start planned for Monday am. Hopefully the weather and wildlife play ball.

Thanks,

A coot in some golden light from the beginning of March, it really doesn't seem that long ago since I was on the bank of the loch.

Today I was glad to be able to pop over to take my good friend Paul Masterton out for a few hours with the camera.

I picked him up mid morning and we headed to Linlithgow loch, as he really wanted to see the grebes. Paul being Paul wasn't content with just being there to take photo's, no....... Paul decided he wanted to try and get down low in the water.

Lucky for Paul I am slightly more sensible and I wasn't for letting him have his own way this time, so we compromised!

This resulted in him perching his bottom on the wall at the side of the loch, with tripod and camera in the water in the loch just in front of him. I was still feeling slightly nervous for him but he did put his camera strap round his neck which made me feel slightly better.

It was great to see you again mate and good to see you enjoying the surroundings and using your camera.

We were lucky enough to have 3 pairs of great crested grebes showing very well in front of us, as well as mallards, coots, moorhens and tufted ducks. I'm sure you will have a few great images mate.

I didn't really take any images, today was more about getting my friend out and about.

With the cool wind starting to numb our hands, we packed up, and headed off to a great spot for some lunch by the canal. Thanks for the treat mate, I really appreciated it and the food was delicious.

Catch up soon and keep fighting your fight 💙

All the best,
Shane Hardy Photography.

Good evening,

I'm well on the way to full recovery and feeling much better now, thanks for all of your messages and well wishes its very much appreciated.

I recently took delivery of a 1.4 teleconverter, something I'm not a huge fan of using but they can be handy to have in the bag for the odd occassion.

So I headed along to a very small local lochan to me, which has very limited access from one side due to it being on private land. I wish I could get more access to it as its a great place with lots of wildlife on it.

Anyway the purpose of my visit was to test out the 1.4 TC. I'm not going to lie, I did struggle a lot more than I normally would with the TC attached and had to delete a lot of shots, however I did manage to get some keepers. I suspect alot of the issues were down to user error, but the jury is still out there for now.......

I do have an exciting trip planned in the next couple of weeks up in the Cairngorms, hopefully it comes to fruition and I can share some images from the day once it's happened. Fingers crossed the weather gods and the wildlife plays ball.

Good evening.

Firstly apologies if I've not replied to anyone's comments over the last week or so. Unfortunately Covid has gone through our house for the last two weeks and I've been pretty poorly with it for the last week. I'm starting to feel much better again and have even managed a couple of hours sitting editing tonight.

Taken a few weeks ago now in some wonderful early morning light.

A coot, a moorhen and a great crested grebe.

All taken with the Canon R5 and Sigma 500 f4 sport.

Thanks and take care,

Heron in some golden light

Taken while waiting on the short eared owls appearing 3 weeks ago now. From what I gather the herons were more accomplished at catching themselves voles than the SEO's were.

Did someone order some lovely light, a Great Crested Grebe and a side order of fish?

These birds are just so elegant and graceful as they effortlessly glide and cut through the water.

Another image from my early starts a couple of weeks ago, worth braving the 5am rise, hard frost on the ground and freezing water when you get subjects like this in conditions like this.

Technical Information

Canon R5 | Sigma 500 f4 Sport | ISO4000 | 1/1250 | f4 | Gimbal and tripod just above the water level | taken around 7am
