Well blow me over sidweways! I've just found out that I managed to sneak not one, but two images into the prestigious UK Landscape Photographer of the Year competition! 😊

‘Stevington Windmill’ was commended in the Classic View category

“The Scenic Route” was commended in the Your View category.

Both images have also won a place in the Awards Book and I am very much looking forward to seeing them in print.

What a wonderful present for my *ahem 40th ahem* birthday weekend!

I hope you'll forgive the self promotion, but I'm pretty excited about this one!

Some of you who follow me over on Twitter may have seen that I've been preparing for my first solo exhibition. I'm pleased to finally be able to confirm details:

It will be held at https://www.stanwicklakes.org.uk/ in the visitor centre between April 2nd - September 30th 2022.

There will be a private view on Saturday 7th May, 17:00 - 18:30. Please let me know if you'd like to attend, or e-mail Stanwick Lakes direct at: [email protected]

It would be lovely if some of you could make it. It would be great to put some (more) faces to names 🙂

Finally, I must say a huge thank you to the team at Stanwick Lakes who have done a fantastic job with the exhibition. It looks wonderful!

Amar Sood is a successful UK landscape photographer based in Buckinghamshire and we are pleased to announce his 'Parklife' exhibition of photography is at Stanwick Lakes Visitor Centre until 30 September.

Amar was commended and published in UK Landscape Photographer of the Year (2021), shortlisted for Outdoor Photographer of the Year (2019) and Close-Up Photographer of the Year (2019).

A Private view is also being held on the 7 May 5:00 pm-6:30 pm, which would include additional work/images available to view, please email [email protected] if you would like to attend.

// "Summit" //

When I was reviewing my images on the back of the camera on the evening of our first day in The Lakes, I could have sworn I saw an image where I'd captured two people on the summit of Catstye Cam. However, I had trouble finding it when the images were imported into Lightroom. Pleased to say I finally found the image this morning 😊

My obsession with Catstye Cam continues. Here it is with its adjoining ridge: Swirral Edge.

A close up of the ridge with its winter coat on. Makes me wish I had the winter mountain skills to head up there in those conditions! ❄

//"Heaven & Earth"//

I've just returned from a wonderful weekend in The Lake District. The forecast had suggested a wet Friday, followed by an overcast Saturday and then a dry and bright Sunday (the day we were due to leave). As it happened, all 3 days were dry, bright and glorious :)

Needless to say I have loads of images to look through but for now, here's one from the Friday.

I've developed a bit of an obsession with Catstye Cam. Most people can't resist the pull of its more famous (and higher) neighbour, the mighty Helvellyn, but I find myself more drawn to Catstye Cam. It's just such a shapely peak.

Here it is with a dusting of snow, sharing the frame with a wispy bit of cloud, which helps to balance out the composition in this minimalistic frame.

// "Snow Day I" //

This first image was taken on a 'snow day' at work. The snow was so bad that we were told not to come in. I'm not going to lie - I was very happy! I headed to a local park and was surprised to find it deserted! What greeted me was a full on blizzard.

I had my 'big camera' with me as well, but for some reason, I was more drawn to the images I took with my phone. Their 'lo-fi' nature somehow gives a better representation of just how crazy the conditons were. (I was in heaven!)

// "Fragile" //

A clean and simple composition taken during a day of unexpected heavy snowfall. I was drawn to the little splash of colour provided by the last leaves of autumn, hanging on for dear life in the presence of a blizzard in the depths of winter. This provided both a visual focal point and a compelling story / narrative.

// "White Out" //

We may not have had any snow over the weekend, but that doesn't stop me enjoying some images from a memorable say out in the snow last year 😊 I love how snow can transform everyday scenes into something magical and enchanting.

One from last year that has really grown on me. Taken around the start of autumn, which is a favourite time of year for me.

The warmth of summer has faded and I'm full of excitement and anticipation for what's to come.

// "Golden" //

It's good to be spontaneous sometimes. Take this image for example: I spontaneously decided to take a couple of hours off work on a Monday morning to go for a wander in the mist.

I'm pleased to say, it turned out to be a very good decision. I hadn't been out with the camera in a while and the combination of amazing conditions and gorgeously photogenic landscape took me completely by surprise. Being a Monday, I had the place to myself as well.

Whilst wandering, I found myself spontaneously bursting into a smile for no other reason than it was a wonderful morning to be out. I was on a high for the rest of the day!

This was one of my favourite images from the morning. The light burst through the trees in front of my eyes and when Mother Nature puts on a show like that it really is as simple as point, shoot and then drink it all in.
