Welcome to Humans of the Isle of Wight!
A non-profit community based documentary and street photography project celebrating the diversity of people living on the IoW.
The objective of this project is to document the people of the island. To demonstrate that every person you pass on the street has a story to tell. To illustrate how you can take a cross section of people from any community and there will be characters and stories to be told. That everyone is beautiful and photogenic. And the same in their difference.
Humans of the IoW will kick off with this page followed by an Instagram page, website and ultimately a podcast. Support from the island community will help to bring this project alive and allow it to thrive.
As well as pre-arranged sessions with island characters nominated by the island community, you may find me chatting to and photographing random people who catch my eye on the street.
Henry Cartier-Bresson, a well know French street photographer, once said that the best camera is the one you have with you. And so I will mostly be using my smart phone and available light.
Let’s get this show on the road! Please like and share. Launch coming soon!
Affectionately,
Humans of IoW
EDITED: I would like to acknowledge Brandon Stanton who was the inspiration for this project. He was the original creator of Humans of New York, a project I’ve been following since he launched it in 2010. Kudos Brandon, I’d tip my hat if I wore one.
