Gifted with the most precious blessing! 💛

A special time I had with this beautiful pair capturing their contagious joy and sweet celebration . A huge honour I never take for granted 🙏🏾

“…I thank the Lord for bringing you my way and I’m never letting go. This loving is for life. I’m loving you for life…”

A few months ago we met up for Anita and Peter’s family photoshoot and it was truly special, in every sense of the word. Special because we got to; create & capture sweet memories, celebrate the growth of their beautiful family and the wonderful values these two they are instilling in their children.

I’m thankful to have grabbed a couple of frames of just mummy and daddy 💛

“To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us…” Tim Keller

In Frame: My dear parents, some time back for an anniversary celebratory photo session because why not! 🥳💛

Side Note: Also grew up grooving to Alick Macheso because Sekuru was a legend ! 💛🙏🏾

We have so much treasure in one another as people. Fortunately, our interactions can be a source of laughter, wisdom, hope, comfort and more. These women surely gave me that freely in our short time together, whilst I was at the market. Thankful for these few portraits of some of them.

Musika (market) an amusing blend of beauty and agony- joy, laughter, second chances, colour, despair, dreams, hard work, resilience, empowerment, hustle, family, support, sisterhood, brotherhood, frustration, hope, comfort, a good price haggle and the list goes on …

Kind eyes and a reassuring smile 🫶🏾💛

Sekuru Perego- I first met him when he peeped over the house fence to say good morning to us. A common practice of his, always making sure his neighbours are well and good. An example of the delightful neighbourly culture in Zimbabwe.

Of course, my sister and I then went over to sekuru’s for a chat because we love a little bit of that 😅😂 He did not mind us disturbing his time in the garden because he even sat down for some quick portraits.

Full smiles and hearty chats. Moments in the motherland I will always treasure!

“…love your neighbour as yourself…”

Her joy and laughter is a sweet haven of love, warmth and comfort, my favourite thing about Vatete Mai Mo 💛

Vatete/ Tete- A Shona (one of the Zimbabwean languages) word for aunt- particularly father’s sister or husband’s sister. By virtue of other Zimbabwean cultural traditions, many who may not necessarily be your father’s sister or husband’s sister can hold this prestigious title too😅

Vatetes’ roles are so significant in nurturing the lives of those who have the privilege of their presence. The Zimbabwean culture celebrates vatetes as a perfect blend of parent and friend. Their highly esteemed role is to guide, unite, correct, listen, advise in love and so much more.

Sometimes, you here of bad stereotypes of vatetes particularly in their relations with their varooras 😅 (sisters in law) but we want to celebrate what they truly stand for and honour them for who they are 💛

I am thankful for the sweet time spent and wonderful memories made with one of mine. Here are some beautiful portraits I took of her on our little stroll.

“Tenda vanokuperekedza murwendo kufamba wega haungagone, wuchira.” - Thank those who walk with you in the journey, you are not able to walk alone.

What’s your favourite thing about your vatete/s (aunt/s)?

Sekuru, a wonderful treasure 💛

Meet my maternal grandmother’s brother, my dear sekuru. I loved spending my days with him whilst in the motherland, getting to know him in person after years of hearing stories about him. I’m thankful for his pearls of wisdom. One of which is echoed in the heart of this song- “when the going gets tough, kneel down and pray.” I’m thankful for the story times and wonderful memories, praying for more. Distance can be a terrible thing but they also say it makes the heart grow fonder.

As the years go by, I’m learning more and more about the importance of spending quality time with loved ones. There is so much wealth in time spent together and investing in all our relationships.

Gogola- She is a real treasure!

The one who continuously teaches and shows me that, “a joyful heart makes a cheerful face.” I look forward to many more moments of joy, laughter and enjoyment of even the simplest things of life together. For now, I will hold on very closely to the memories, photos, call catch ups and voice recordings you never knew I was taking. Having you is a true blessing!

Carrying a camera everywhere can sometimes hinder the ability to be all there, present in the emotions and feelings of what is happening. However, it’s wonderful to relive precious moments through beautifully captured images. Here is to having a more balanced approach of capturing timeless photos and being completely immersed in the feeling of the moment.

Her worth is far more than rubies, more than the purest gold!
My life has been changed and continues to be changed positively through so many lessons from her. Forever grateful.

I had the privilege of capturing some portraits of her last summer! I said gogo I want to take photos of you and then she said hold on, five minutes later she came out looking like this 😂 My babes is always serving looks 😍

Special thanks to Kule Kanga for making my granny’s chair! This man’s work is incredible!👏🏾 I wish I captured more of him and his beautiful creations but we spent too much time talking lol which in hindsight is even better because I got to know more about him. He taught me what persevering in perfecting your craft looks like.
