🎶 A few from my Sunday afternoon Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival wander… 📸

After giving The Boneheads their very well-deserved post of their own, here are a few more from a wander around Colne on Sunday afternoon during the Blues Festival.

Plenty of music, plenty of people, a cracking atmosphere and a couple more of the Colne Youth Action Group too! ❤️

There’s something rather lovely about seeing the town so busy, with music coming from every direction and people just stopping, listening and enjoying themselves.

I popped in and out across the weekend rather than doing the full Blues marathon, but I certainly managed to point the camera at a fair few things while I was there! 😂📸

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend at the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival! 🎶🎸

I popped in and out over the weekend and, of course, had the camera with me, so I’ve got plenty of photos coming your way… 📸

But I thought these guys deserved a post all of their own. ❤️

Over at Colne Youth Action Group, they run The Sound House, a brilliant project where young people can have a go at different instruments, learn, make music together and discover talents they perhaps didn’t even know they had.

And from The Sound House came The Boneheads! 🤘🎸🥁

On Sunday afternoon, The Boneheads took to the stage at the Colne Blues Festival for their FIRST EVER GIG and they were absolutely superb!

Getting up on stage in front of a festival crowd for your very first performance takes some doing, but these kids absolutely smashed it. 👏🔥

A massive well done to every single one of you. Hopefully this is just the first of many gigs to come!

And a huge well done and thank you to Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price and David Cockburn-Price, whose brainchild CYAG was, and to everyone else who gives their time and energy to help make it what it is today and supporting out young 'uns.

This is exactly why projects like CYAG and The Sound House are so important. Give young people the opportunity to try something new, encourage them and give them somewhere to develop it and look what can happen.

You might just end up with The Boneheads playing the Blues Festival! 🎸❤️

🐑 RUSH HOUR… LANCASHIRE STYLE! 😂

For a brief moment the other day, I thought I’d somehow been transported back to the south coast of Crete.

Scenes like this were a regular occurrence out there. We used to call it rush hour. 😂🐑🐑🐑

What I wasn’t expecting was to come across it on the Gisburn–Blacko road, especially at that time of day! Fair play to the farmers moving this lot with the traffic building behind them. I’m not sure I’d have had the nerve. 😳

But I had to grab a photo because sometimes the best photographs aren’t planned, styled or carefully constructed. They just appear in front of you and make you stop.

Actually, there’s probably a little lesson in there for life and business too...

Sometimes you can have somewhere to be, a plan in your head and a perfectly clear road ahead...

…and then 100 sheep turn up. 😂

You can get frustrated, or you can slow down, enjoy the unexpected and maybe even get a cracking photograph out of it.

📸 Not every detour is a disaster. Sometimes it’s the interesting bit. ❤️

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?

Yesterday started off pretty well… which, in hindsight, should probably have been my first warning. 😂

I’d had a really good night’s sleep, got up early as usual, got some work done and then headed off for one of my two little “for me” treats… getting my lashes done. 👀✨

Came home, cracked on with more work and, in a rare moment of impressive forward planning, got a steak casserole in the slow cooker for tea. I was heading to a funeral in the afternoon and knew I’d be pushed for time afterwards because I had football training.

Look at me being all organised. 🙌

Got to the church absolutely fine and it was a beautiful service for a truly wonderful lady. ❤️

Then everyone headed off to the crematorium.

Everyone except me.

Because Bob had apparently decided he’d paid his respects and wasn’t going any further. 🤦‍♀️🚙

Turned the key… nothing.

At first I thought it was the immobiliser, but after a bit of investigating I realised it was something to do with the starter motor. This actually happened years ago and I used to crawl underneath, twiddle something, get back in and off we’d go.

Technical mechanical terminology there. 🔧😂

Unfortunately, yesterday I couldn’t for the life of me remember what the bloody thing was that needed twiddling.

So… the AA it was.

Except, obviously, my AA membership hadn’t been renewed.

Then I remembered I had breakdown cover through my bank account. RESULT!

Except the app refused to recognise me.

So it wanted my login details.

Which, with approximately 7,492 other things currently occupying my brain, I obviously couldn’t remember. 🤯

Cue me ringing the boys, who seem to have their phones surgically attached to their hands whenever I’m around but mysteriously become completely unreachable the second I actually need them. 📱😂

Eventually I got through, got my login details sent over and THEN the app decided it recognised my face.

Of course it did. 🤯😂

Finally got through to the AA and, with a slightly quivering voice by this point, explained where I was and what had happened.

And credit where it’s due, they were absolutely brilliant.

Within about 20 minutes, the lovely Damian arrived. It WAS the problem I thought it was, he did the appropriate professional version of twiddling the thing and Bob sprang back into life. 🙌🚙

I eventually made it to the wake, roughly two hours behind schedule, but I made it. ❤️

Sadly football training had to be sacrificed, which I was genuinely gutted about, but sometimes the day just decides it has other plans for you.

And when I eventually got home?

That steak casserole had been quietly bubbling away in the slow cooker the whole time, completely oblivious to the chaos.

Possibly the most reliable thing in my life yesterday. 😂🥘

Moral of the story?

Renew your breakdown cover, remember your passwords, learn which bit of your car needs twiddling… and ALWAYS put tea in the slow cooker before leaving the house.

Because you never know when your afternoon is going to go completely off-piste, but at least you can come home to gravy. 😂❤️

🥾🌊📸 𝗪𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗜𝗧! 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗬: 𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗗!

What an absolutely brilliant day helping to raise money for Child Action Northwest! ❤️

Around four hours of walking, stunning scenery, glorious sunshine and an experience I’d highly recommend doing at least once.

There were moments when the whole thing felt slightly… biblical. 😂

Hundreds of us making our way across the vast expanse of Morecambe Bay had definite 'Exodus from Egypt' vibes. All we needed was Moses out front parting the sea which I was half expecting when we got to the river crossing! 🌊

Then there were the traditional laurel branch markers, known as “brobs”, which are used to mark and help identify safe routes across the sands. At this point, given the developing biblical theme, I was fully expecting one to spontaneously burst into flames à la The Burning Bush.

Luckily, it didn’t.

So obviously I Photoshopped it afterwards. 😂🔥🌿📸

There was a slightly scary bit of drama in the middle when a few people were caught by the quicksand, but they were helped to safety brilliantly by the marshals. A reminder that, beautiful as the Bay is, it definitely deserves respect and you should never attempt it on your own.

Eventually we arrived in Grange-over-Sands, with very achy legs, and apparently the religious theme wasn’t finished with us yet…

We could hear hymns. 🎶

Not from some distant heavenly choir, but from Praise on the Prom, where a wonderful group of the older generation were singing their hearts out, complete with organ and other instruments.

It was lovely but ever so slightly reminiscent of a scene from The Vicar of Dibley. 😂

Then came perhaps the biggest challenge of the entire day…

We missed the train back to Arnside. 🚂

By minutes.

Which meant an HOUR’S WAIT with no refreshments because the pub was approximately 0.2 miles away and, after crossing Morecambe Bay, our legs unanimously voted ABSOLUTELY NOT. 😂😂

A huge thank you to Michael Wilson, The King’s Guide to Morecambe Bay, who saw us safely across. The royally appointed role dates all the way back to 1548, and Michael continues an incredible tradition through The Guide over Sands Trust, which has been guiding people safely across the Bay for centuries. 👏

What a day. Sunshine, scenery, quicksand, aching legs, biblical references, hymns, Photoshop, missed train and a whole lot of laughs.

Morecambe Bay, you delivered. ❤️🌊

🥾📸 𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗘’𝗥𝗘 𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗬!

Tomorrow, myself and James will be swapping solid ground for sand, sea and probably some very soggy feet as we head out to walk across Morecambe Bay, capturing this wonderful group of people taking on the challenge to raise money for Child Action Northwest (CANW). ❤️

The famous Cross Bay Walk starts in Arnside and finishes in Grange-over-Sands, with the exact route dictated by the tides and conditions on the day. The distance can be anywhere between 5.5 and 9 miles, taking walkers across sand, channels and the River Kent. Definitely not your average Sunday stroll! 🌊🥾

But the reason everyone is doing it is even more important.

Child Action Northwest has been supporting children and young people for more than 135 years, with its roots going all the way back to Blackburn Orphanage in 1886. Today, the charity works with children, young people, vulnerable adults and families who may be facing incredibly difficult circumstances. Their work includes emotional health and wellbeing support, young carers, fostering, family support and helping some of the most vulnerable people within our communities. ❤️

Since April 2024 alone, CANW has delivered more than 27,000 interventions across its services. That gives you an idea of just how many lives their work touches.

So while James and I will be there documenting the adventure, the real stars tomorrow are the people putting one foot in front of the other and raising money to help CANW continue that work. 👏
