Let's be honest now, sushi is proof that people will happily pay good money for tiny portions if they're presented beautifully. 😆

One of my favourite things about food photography is that dishes like sushi are the perfect combination of colour, texture and craftsmanship. Every piece is like a tiny edible work of art.

The challenge? Photographing it before someone eats it. 🤣

So, in honour of International Sushi Day, here's a little throwback to one of my favourite sushi shoots.

Need I say any more?

Well... actually, yes. 😆

Some of you may remember that I used to photograph for Batch Distillery One of my favourite memories was packing empty bottles of Signature and Industrial Strength into my suitcase and taking them around Europe with me for photoshoots and content creation. Talk about dedication to the cause!😂

These particular images were taken during a trip to Spain, and having had a quick look at Batch's social media recently, I noticed they're still using some of those photographs today.

That's the beauty of professional photography. Great images aren't just for a quick social media post. They become valuable business assets that continue working for your brand year after year.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱...

Sometimes it starts with a chef who has spent years perfecting a dish.

Sometimes it's a family business pouring their heart into every service.

Sometimes it's a restaurant owner taking a leap of faith and investing everything into a dream.

The food might be what catches the eye, but the real story is always the people behind it.

Over the last few months I've been lucky enough to photograph everything from award-winning chefs and artisan producers to independent cafés, restaurants and hospitality businesses across the North West.

And that's what I love most... not just capturing what's on the plate, but capturing the story behind the brand.

🌶️🥧 𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

This beautiful Stables Cheese & Chilli Pie deserved more than a static photograph, so I thought I'd bring it to life.

From the rich golden pastry to the vibrant red chilli perched on top, every detail tells part of the story. The challenge isn't simply photographing food, it's capturing the character, quality and personality that make people stop scrolling and think, "I need to try that."

Whether it's an artisan pie, a signature dish, a chef at work, or the people behind the business, great visual content helps customers connect with your brand long before they walk through the door.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀.

This latest feature for Lancashire Life Magazine gave me the opportunity to do exactly that at Saltbush & Smoke at Outpost, Eccleston 🔥🍽️

Of course, the food deserves the spotlight. The creativity, skill and attention to detail that goes into every dish is incredible 👨‍🍳✨ But for me, great hospitality photography goes beyond what's on the plate.

It's about capturing the atmosphere of a place 🏡

The people behind the business 👥

The passion, hard work and personality that guests experience when they walk through the door ❤️

When I arrive at a shoot, I'm not just looking for beautiful dishes. I'm looking for the moments, details and characters that help tell the complete story of a venue and the people who make it special.

That's what I set out to capture for this Lancashire Life feature on Saltbush & Smoke, and I'm incredibly proud to see the images in print 📖✨

Still pinching myself a little over this one ❤️

A few more images from this month's June edition of Lancashire Life Magazine and I’m still smiling that one of my images also made the FRONT COVER 😍🍽️

Seeing your work in print never really gets old. From planning the shoot and styling details, to working with talented chefs, producers and businesses, I love creating images that tell the story behind the food rather than just showing what's on a plate.

Good food deserves more than a quick phone snap. It deserves images that make people stop scrolling, start talking and ideally start ordering 😏

When you see your image on the front cover of Lancashire Life Magazine sitting on the shelf in Sainsbury’s… you just have to stop and do a selfie 🤣

Did I get a few funny looks? Yes.
Did I care? Did I b*llocks 🤣
Did I wander around holding said magazine hoping I’d bump into someone I knew like always seems to happen on a Friday? Yes 🤣
Did I actually see anyone I knew? No 🫩

Still a bit surreal seeing one of my images sat there on the cover. One of those little moments where you just have to stand there grinning like an idiot for a minute ❤️
