Glenn Miles Photography

Glenn Miles Photography On the autism spectrum/Aspergers. Like all landscape photographer's I have a passion for the landscape and the environment and its relationship to us (humans).

Landscape and Astrolandscape photographer based in Northern Ireland with over 30 years of experience with the last 10 years photographing the north coast of N.Ireland. I have been taking photographs of the landscape for over twenty-five years and what started as a hobby has now become a passion. Living in the Northwest of N.Ireland, I am very lucky to have some breathtaking scenery right on my doo

rstep. So as can been seen from my photos, they are predominantly of this area of outstanding natural beauty. I am also lucky to live close to Donegal in the Irish Republic which allows me to photograph another beautiful part of the world. The landscape on the western seaboard of Ireland is truly wonderful and unspoilt. Photographing the landscape means photographing something that is not there as it is all about the light and the quality of that light. For me, landscape photography is a spiritual journey and my inspiration especially for black and white photography comes from the legendary landscape photographer Ansel Adams (1902-1984) whose photographs of the American West are breathtaking. As I have been alone since early childhood it comes natural to me to spend many hours or days alone in the landscape and amongst nature. My photographs are a very personal thing and are not taken for or to please anyone else. They are thoughts and emotions which come from the raw power of nature. When I'm alone in nature I feel connected and inspired by my surroundings which I don't get when other people are around.Inspiration comes from being alone in a forest or standing on a deserted beach looking out to sea and waiting for the light to change a mundane landscape into something magical. When that happens it stirs something in the soul which makes everything worthwhile. When alone in nature all your senses are magnified tenfold. When your sight is magnified you look at things in a different light.you actually listen to nature and hear the wind and listen to the birds and touch the earth that surrounds you.you become aware of everything that is going on around you and are in a heightened state off awareness. The end result is a photograph where no words are necessary just emotions. This is what I strive for but it doesn't always work. I spent many years chasing the light when I learnt that you have to anticipate and not chase the light. This taught me to slow down and use a tripod and slow everything down where you think first and photograph later. As I said my photographs are a personal thing I take photographs for myself and photograph what I like and hope that there are enough like-minded people out there that are willing to hang one of my photographs on their wall and hope that it gives them as much pleasure and inspiration as it gave me when taking it. Thank you for looking at my photographs please feel free to leave feedback if you like or don't like what you see. The journey continues. My photographs are in private collections as far away as America and Australia

For various reasons I've been off grid for most of this year, so what better reason to post a photo than one of Friday nights aurora display. With long overdue clear skies I thought I would take a chance on the Giants Causeway. I arrived early just after seven with no one around. The aurora was clearly visible to the naked eye with a green arch stretching over the horizon. I managed to capture a few shots until car headlights started to ruin my solitude. It wasn't long before torches were shining at my direction and and another photographer decided to set up next to me with another one hot on the heals of the first one. This was my que to leave and find another location and find peace and solitude to enjoy natures wonderful display in all her glory. This was one of many shots I captured over the next couple of hours. Taken from Port Reostan. It was nice to finally get out under the stars for a few hours after what seemed like months of constant cloud cover and rain. Here's hoping for more clear skies over the winter months! www.glennmilesphotography.com

Ok so It's Ballintoy Church again! This is my go to place for capturing the Aurora and have photographed it many times over the years. There's just something magical about this little church which makes me come back to it over and over again. Sitting in the grave yard under stary skies in the peace and quiet and then witnessing the aurora dancing above the church is a very spiritual and moving experience. After darkness fell you could clearly see a green band over the horizon. It was around 10.30 when there was a sudden outburst with red and purple beams shooting up over the church. It didn't last long but just long enough to capture yet another wonderful sight over the north coast. Chance of another aurora tonight if anyone is venturing out but the moon is starting to get very bright but shouldn't cause a problem if there is a strong enough aurora! www.glennmilesphotography.com

As I said from my last post that this was the first time since last November that I had been out taking photographs. So this is another image from last week taken at the entrance to the Black Glenn. I thought this little cottage would make a good foreground interest to show off the night sky behind. The constellation Orion is just above the cottage with the planet Jupiter above right and to the right of it is the Pleiades star cluster. Top left is the planet Mars. I think Uranus is also visible but I'm not sure which one it is! By the time I had got to the cottage the planet Venus had dipped behind the clouds to the right of the cottage. The bright star to the left of the cottage is Sirius or the dog star which is the brightest star in the night sky at this time of the year. As with all landscape photographs the key is to have a good foreground interest which also applies to night photography. It just so happened that the cottage was occupied and the lights were on which made the overall image more appealing. www.glennmilesphotography.com

this is another image of comet C/2023 Atlas from last Monday evening over Mussenden Temple. This was a focal length of 200mm showing the comet closer to the temple with more of the tail visible. I also photographed the comet again on Friday evening but have not yet uploaded them to my computer. I will post images when I get a chance to view them. www.glennmilesphotography.com
