The final day of - THRIVE

I mean, what else is there to say for this one? This is what I want for everyone I photograph! Whether it's a wedding/celebration of love, a branding shoot, pet photography session, products, an event...whatever it is, I want my photos to showcase a moment where you were absolutely thriving and for you to keep moving onwards and upwards!

I'm going a bit rogue with this prompt and, as has been a theme throughout this, making sure all to-be-weds know their wedding should be 'analogous' to who they are!

Lindsey and Stuart made their wedding completely them. Getting ready with their closest people; taking a minute after the ceremony for just the two of them; making the best joint speech I've ever heard, which got everyone feeling ALL the feels; partying like it was the last night on Earth and having their son, Jack, be a part of the whole day. This wedding was an absolute celebration of them. They even took a minute during their 'portrait session' to call over a friend who walked past and grab a picture with him! was the perfect venue - relaxed, friendly, vibey and able to become a huge dancefloor to party the night away on. It goes to show that you don't have to have a huge mansion venue in order to have the absolute best day! I had so much fun documenting their day and it's safe to say everyone there had an incredible time!

The hardest part of being a photographer - I find - is showing up online! I'm not sure if it's just me, but the thought of having to post anything really fills me with dread. Let alone writing a caption to go along with the photos and try to drum up some kind of interaction. I know the last few captions on these have been a bit neggo or lackluster; I just find it so weird to do! I think the more interaction I get, the more weird I feel about it as well. Like when no one responds it can feel like I'm typing these out for no one, so I can just write whatever comes into my head, but once people start responding? Ugh, no, people are seeing this and judging it haha!

So yep! THIS is the hardest part. Which says a lot when you spend your time under pressure, photographing people's most important days!

On Rachel and Andy's wedding day there were so many surprises! Little gifts and letters, stories in speeches, a handmade heart decoration, slippers that the bride changed into in the evening - every aspect of the day had a few!

The advice I would give to anyone planning a wedding/celebration of love is really just to do whatever you want!

Do you want to have an obscure reference on your wedding banner? (guilty!) Do you want to sack off the table favours? Do you only want to invite 4 people? Do you want to play boardgames instead of dancing? Do you want to elope? Do you want a shorter day? Do you want to take a nap? Do you want to have your ceremony somewhere that means everything to you and your partner/s? Do you want ALL the flowers? Your day can be whatever you want!

Whatever you're doing, just make sure you're doing it because you want to - not because you feel like you should. It's a day to celebrate your love and that means it's all about you and the things that bring you joy.

Don't spend more than you want just because you feel like you have to have all the little bits and pieces. Don't go for a huge venue because you feel like you should invite all the extended family. Don't hire people you don't get on with. Don't buy into the capitalist vision of a wedding. Don't do anything that brings you down!

day 18 - Silliness

These are the moments I live for: the silliness! The big, nose-scrunching laughs you have with one of your bridesmaids, messing around with your I do crew, one of you pretending to drop the groom (whilst no one else had any clue!), the secret look or words you have for your partner to make them laugh as they meet you at the top of the aisle...these are the bits that make your wedding you, and the parts I want to make sure I capture!

Honestly, I'm so bad at ever printing or displaying any photos! The only ones we have up in the house are ones people have bought for us. I think it's partly because we don't trust any ways to put them up on the wall (always scared of them pulling the wall down - drywall prooooblems) and also neither of us can figure out what looks good haha. But, we 100% will be printing some of our wedding photos and getting a photo album made. Why? Because how often do you ever see the photos that are on your phone? How many times have you lost access to your cloud storage, or something's got lost when changing phones/laptops? Or is it just me losing photos all the time?! I don't want to take the risk that our photos will get lost. Photographers only store things for so long, so if you don't have a backup those photos could be gone.

And it's not all doom and gloom - I also want to be able to look back on my photos properly! I don't always want to be able to zoom right in and see all the little imperfections, I just want to see an incredible photo of me and A-Jay on our wedding day. Hold it, show people, have it as a ritual that we look at on our anniversary, or on a random Sunday when we're feeling nostalgic. Could I just go to my phone downloads? Sure. But I dunno...I honestly just don't think it's the same. And in a world becoming more and more digital, it's so satisfying to have something tangible.

Like these photos! We don't look at them super often, but we're absolutely not throwing them away! They're the only physical thing that we have from our engagement (aside from the ring) and I love that we kept them. A-Jay printed all of these out and hung them around a treehouse that we stayed in overnight. It was so special, and so literally full of our memories, and I never look back at these on my phone. But I do sometimes sit upstairs and flick through these. Because there are so many photos on my phone. And so many inconsequential ones. But these ones were picked out by someone I love, for a day he'd thought about for so long. And that's way more special to me than scrolling past it on my phone.

day 16 - The Inbetween. Those moment between the big events, when you're not 100% where the photographer is, but they're getting shots of absolutely everything! Your nan having a canape, the little unposed moments between group shots, the toast on the bus from the ceremony to the reception, the time alone before you go into the party, a game of Jenga, your nephew grabbing your face...all the little moments that might have been missed, forgotten or overlooked. The Inbetween is where the real moments happen!

day 15 - Change. There's been quite a lot of change in my life over the last year. Some good, some bad, some big, some small.

I got married! That's both a huge change and no change at all! Me and my husband, A-Jay, have been together for almost 15 years, so we kind of were married anyway? But now it's official, and we had an amazing day with loads of our favourite people and had the best time. So that's one big/small good change!

I got told I'm coeliac, so that's pretty rubbish. I am asymptomatic though, so that's good! I love food so much though, especially Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Filipino food, which all generally has a lot of gluten in it. So I'm mourning the loss of being able to eat at some of my favourite places, whilst also embracing trying to make things at home using gluten free versions of things like soy sauce and gochujang. And so far so good for the most part! I just hate having to think about where I'll eat. In my adult life, I've tried to stay away from the lure of diet culture and thinking too much about what I eat (aside from "does it taste good?") so I kind of resent that part.

I got made redundant from a photography job last year and have been trying to find something steady since then. It's been pretty rough being in temp work for a while and then out of work since May. The job market is an absolute sh*tshow at the moment, and so many people are applying for each job! But I have now found something (fingers crossed), so that's a good change!

I've also been trying to re-start this whole photography malarkey, which - as a perfectionist - has also had it's ups and downs and is taking waaaaay longer than I anticipated. I've been trying to figure out my website since March (?!) and it's still not ready to go...if anyone knows a decent web designer or someone who can do an audit of a website then please let me know any recommendations! I'm kind of resigned to the fact that I'm obviously not able to do it myself haha.

So yeah....lots of change. But I've had the best day ever, spent loads of time seeing friends, hung out with my family more. So overall, it's been a pretty good year! How are you all doing?!

I've never actually photographed a wedding with animals around - that's definitely on the wishlist though! If you're having a wedding with animals there and need a photographer, please hit me up! I'd love to photograph your day!

So in lieu of wedding photos, I thought I'd use this prompt to introduce my own two cats to you - if you've seen my instagram before, you've seen this photo I took of them last year. I love it so much! It really sums them up - Titus (the ginger) looking handsome but pretty stupid and Zillah trying her best to not be in the shot whatsoever! I really love animals so much and I love the personality that can come through during pet shoots. You might not get the shot you were aiming for but you'll definitely get one you'll cherish forever!
