Working with dogs like Rhubarb and Crumble is a reminder that every portrait begins with connection. No two dogs are the same….Rhubarb, incredibly gentle and sensitive, needed time to feel safe, while Crumble arrived full of energy and enthusiasm. As a photographer, it’s my role to meet them where they are, to read their body language, and to create an environment where they can relax and show who they truly are.
With pairs like Rhubarb and Crumble, the dynamic between them is just as important as their individual characters. They’re very different, but very clearly bonded, and it was a joy to capture that relationship. I often begin with the more confident dog….in this case Crumble….to establish energy and rhythm in the session. Then I bring them together, allowing that confidence to gently transfer, before working one on one with the more sensitive dog once they feel secure. It’s a simple approach, but incredibly effective.
I know that trust doesn’t usually take long but it can’t be rushed. When a dog feels comfortable, that’s when the real magic happens.📸🫶🏻
If you have more than one dog and are considering a studio session, you don’t need to worry about differences in personality. With patience, lots of time and the right approach, we can create something that reflects each of them and the bond they share. I’d love to welcome you into my bespoke chilled studio space based in Chipping Norton.
