On my way home now after one of the most amazing trips to Japan, courtesy of Fujifilm UK & Ireland. I was invited to be part of the Tokyo X Summit 2024 which launched an incredible camera: the new X100VI

Quite of few of my clients have asked me in the past for recommendations for which model to buy. After using an x100VI prototype for a while, I am absolutely convinced it would be THE perfect tool for family life. I have absolutely no doubt about it. If any of you want me to get in touch and talk you through this one in particular, just let me know. And if you’ve booked me for a shoot this year, and want a chance to try it, just let me know and I will bring it along to our session.

And no. I am not trying hard to sell this one because I am an ambassador for Fujifilm. I am simply a woman who 6 years ago nearly gave up shooting because the world of photography overwhelmed the hell out of me. Then I discovered Fujifilm and it simplified everything and enabled me to fulfil my potential.

If you have ever been told you can take a picture, do something with that compliment. You never know where that might lead you.

In the meantime, here are a few images I took in Tokyo this week. As soon as I can, I will take it to a family session and show what it can produce in that particular context. But remember, street photography is all about catching a moment completely spontaneously and very quickly… family photography follows the same principle… nothing moves faster than a squiggly toddler on a mission. 🤣

In other news… which some of you may have missed if you are sane and NOT on Instagram. 🤣

I am so so so proud to have been chosen by Fujifilm UK & Ireland to be one of their official ambassadors and very excited about the opportunities this new adventure will bring.
Totally ready to make the most of everything thrown my way, with a healthy dose of nervous energy for sure, but also so so much excitement.

And by the way, it really does take a village to create meaning in life… nothing gets achieved without encouragement, decency, patience, and kindness shown by those who surround us. And I have been shown a shed load of all of that by so many people. “With a little help from my friends” is indeed probably always going to be my life’s soundtrack.

Explore the world of FUJIFILM's X Series and GFX mirrorless digital cameras. Utilising unique colour science technology developed over the past 80 years and the largest system of dedicated APS-C lenses, FUJIFILM helps you to spend more time shooting and less time fixing your images afterwards.

10 favourite images from my 2023 family shoots.

Definition of favourite = genuinely the images that make me feel entirely at one with my work.

Life is short. Feeling “at one” is probably the point of it all. If you’d like to work with me and your family in 2024, get in touch. Let’s create meaning together.

Bridesmaids spying on groomsmen bromance.
Groomsmen revisiting how to tie themselves into knots.
Champagne flowing.
"Yes we finally did it"
An absent grandma but present on FaceTime.
A chilly wind chilling bits and bobs.
A father of the groom impressed with his son's wit.
A maid of honour's speech going down well.
A perfect first dance.
And the inevitable final moment of the night...when
Alexander's shirt finally comes off.
Did I have fun on NYE? I did. Was I knackered on the 1st. I was. Am I ready to go again? Obviously. 🤣

Back at with this mega elegant couple ahead their big party in Denmark next year. I find a few couples are doing their celebrations in two parts… why not? Extends the fun!

My last wedding until NYE… a gorgeous lil micro one. I do love shooting a mix of whole day weddings and shorter smaller ones. Nice way to wrap up this year’s wedding season.

Albie’s mum, Faye, contacted me back in the winter of 2018 (I think?) to book her very first session for the summer of 2019. I wanted to give family photography a proper go… I was working with just one camera (Fuji XT2) and two lenses back then … having to switch them back and forth throughout the shoot. What a pain that was. I was also shooting part-time back then… with the comfort of another salaried job in the background…

Four years on, and now full time, I cannot believe how privileged I am that I can do what I love all of the time.

I have documented Albie and his brothers grow over the years and I can say wholeheartedly that long term family work is my absolute favourite type of work. Because for me my work is about deep human connection. Whilst I can make a connection with someone on the tube in 3 mins… there is nothing like witnessing and documenting change over time.

I have about half a dozen families who I have worked with for a long time now. And even though I visit them often once a year, “Emily! Come and have a look at my room” is shouted almost instantly as I come through the door. “Look! I am this tall now!” “Emily, look at my handwriting now!”.

There is nothing like it.

And I appreciate every visit, because I know children get tired of cameras eventually and all good things must come to an end…. But until then… here we have Albie… from 2019-2023.

Thank you Faye for being one of my first clients and for being one of the families who, without realising, totally embraced my own style of work and enabled me to produce so many images I am so proud of.

If you would like to book a family session for next year please do so before my prices increase in January. And a little reminder I only have one spot for A Year in A Life family. If you are interested, DM me for more details.

Small wedding affairs in London. I love them. Small crowds, relaxed feel, ceremonies are mega informal and the bridal party is exactly who they wanna be.
And Marylebone Town Hall is just around the corner from a few gorgeous typical London mews where you and I can head to either before or after the ceremony… never takes too long with me, couple portraits… You do you. I do me. And it’s a marriage made in heaven. 😆
