HOW TO SPEND A WEEKEND IN EDINBURGH! (MINI GUIDE)
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and one of the most beautiful cities I have visited. It's perfect for a 2-night or weekend visit, here are my top things to do:
1. Walk up Arthur's Seat- this extinct volcano offers stunning views over the whole city and the surrounding landscape. It is always busy so go early to void the worst crowds.
2. The Palace of Holyroodhouse is The King's official residence in Scotland and it's fascinating with so much history, particularly about Mary Queen of Scots. There is also a ruined Abbey and beautiful gardens in the grounds.
3. Edinburgh Castle is the iconic landmark of the city and houses several museums and also the Scottish Crown Jewels. The battlements also offers amazing views.
4.The Old Town surrounds the castle and St. Giles' Cathedral and there are so many beautiful buildings and museums. The main street is the Royal Mile but it's worth exploring the steep and winding side streets and closes as well.
5. is close to the castle and we had one of the best meals I've ever had- the food, service and atmosphere were all perfect.
6. Dean Village- a historic area by the river which is beautiful to wander around.
7. The New Town is actually around 300 years old with beautiful wide Georgian streets and squares as well as independent shops, cafés and restaurants.
8. Calton Hill offers very different views to Arthur's Seat as it's right in the city centre, with several interesting monuments on top. Visit for sunrise or sunset views.
9. Edinburgh offers so much great shopping, but as well as the shopping centre with international chains and designer boutiques, there are lots of interesting and quirky streets, such as Victoria Street (pictured here) and Grassmarket Square.
10. Lots of pubs in Edinburgh will offer a traditional Sunday Roast, we chose the (near Dean Village and the New Town) and it was delicious and also had a great atmosphere and friendly staff.
