Last night my wife, my son and I traveled to a location just outside Chester called Bickerton Hill to watch and photograph the eclipse.
Was an amazing experience and evening. Spoke to lots of lovely people up there both young and old as it was packed up on the peak, but the atmosphere was amazing. Thank you all that came to say hi and showing an interest in what I was doing.
My evening was spent taking this timelapse with my phone and also a timelapse with my main camera of the actual sun and moon crossing paths.
I’ve not yet looked at any results as after this event I took my family home, then I ventured off out again till gone midnight for the Perseids meteor shower.
So for now I’ll just share this location timelapse and later today I shall see what my camera captured and get back to you then.

So yesterday afternoon I decided to discard my first DIY Solar filter to make another as I wasn’t fully happy with it and the “that’ll do” attitude.
So this time I’ve used an old UV filter, removed the glass and replaced the glass with the Solar Filter Sheet. This has resulted in me now having a 95mm screw on filter that has no chance of falling off and also a much more better clean look.
Also did some test shots in the late afternoon sun and also resulted in better quality images and seeing two nice clear sunspots.
I’ve also changed the settings which I will list below, the image below is with the new settings.
Anyway, hopefully thick cloud will stay away later and we all get to see this amazing spectacle. Good luck all and looking forward to seeing your images.

So did some test shots of the sun for tomorrow’s big event with my DIY Solar Eclipse Filter. Just to get settings dialled in and ready so I’m not faffing when on location.
Quite pleased with the results too. Can even see sunspots on the sun which is a good sign.
This shot was captured at 800mm, but for the occasion I’ll probably be shooting at 400mm.
Hope you’re all ready for this upcoming eclipse.

Well, I’m nearly ready for the big event on Wednesday.
Purchased a sheet of eclipse solar filter and did some DIY.
Lens filter made and tested, and it’s friggin awesome 🙌🏻🙌🏻.
Also made the 1st pair out of 3 pairs to make of eclipse glasses too and customised them with a bit of paint 😂😂.
Now the countdown begins.

As many of you will know, as a nature and wildlife photographer, I’m still a sucker for capturing magical moments of our beautiful moon incorporated with our wonderful city of Chester as pic below taken back in Sep 2024.
Well, next Wednesday 12th August, we will be witnessing a partial solar eclipse.
Looking West, it will start at 18:14hrs. The eclipse will be at its most fullest at 19:10hrs, and it will end at 20:04hrs.
Now, to capture special moments such as these with iconic scenery takes a lot of time and planning, and I’ll be honest, I’m struggling to get the image I’m after, due to positioning, location and time. However, I’m not giving up, and if we get clear skies, I will get something.
Even more, later this same night is the peak of the Perseids Meteor shower, which is also a great spectacle to witness, so yes, it’s going to be a long day/night, but hopefully I’ll have something to show you all the next day.
If you’re out on the 12th then good luck and I will also look forward to seeing your images.

To all my .
My apologies that I have been absent from sharing any images with you all over the past 10-12 days.
This is due to taking some much needed time out from behind the camera to recharge and spending quality time with my family in warmer climates down in the Mediterranean.
Now home and refreshed and normal practice will continue from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the image below is where we had an amazing break.

Sparrowhawk
(Accipiter nisus)

The lovely female Sparrowhawk is now becoming a daily visitor to our newly built wildlife pond.
Both male and female were around the gardens for most of the day, but only the female came down for a cooling off.

Feel very privileged for such amazing beauty that visits our gardens and woods.
