A huge thank you to Ian Wainwright from PINESTAR LIMITED for his kind words following his recent brand photography session.

Ian helps businesses improve the way they deliver projects through project assessments, training and practical support. He's incredibly knowledgeable, but also has a genuine warmth and sense of humour. From the start, I knew that was the story the photographs needed to tell.

"Paul is easy to deal with, provides an excellent step-by-step guide through the process, and the actual photo shoot was a very relaxing and fun experience." - Ian Wainwright.

As a former photojournalist, I'm not interested in creating polished corporate headshots that could belong to anyone. I want to capture the person behind the business, the professionalism, personality and authenticity that help clients connect and build trust.

It was a real pleasure working with Ian, and I'm delighted we've created a collection of images that tell his story and showcase what he does.

Confidence isn't something you bring to a photoshoot. It's something you leave with.

One of the first things I hear from new clients is, "I'm not very good in front of the camera." If that sounds familiar, you're in good company.

The truth is, confidence isn't a requirement for great brand photography. In fact, most people arrive feeling a little nervous. They worry about how they'll look, what to do with their hands or whether they'll come across naturally.

That's why I don't begin with the camera. I begin with a conversation about you, your business and the people you help. As the conversation flows, the camera almost disappears.

Something changes during every shoot. People relax. They stop trying to pose. Their personality comes through, and that's when the best photographs are made.

By the end of the session, clients often tell me they feel far more confident than when they arrived. Yes, they leave with a gallery of authentic brand images, but they also leave feeling more comfortable being seen.

I think that's the real value of brand photography.

I've explored this idea in more detail in my latest blog. If you've ever put off having professional photos because you didn't feel confident enough, I think you'll enjoy the read.

Sometimes I think we've forgotten what social media was meant to be.

Somewhere along the way, it became a place to constantly sell, promote, and prove ourselves. Every post has to pitch something.

But the posts I remember rarely tell me what someone does.

They tell me 'why' they do it.

As a former photojournalist, I've always believed that the story behind the photograph is far more important than the photograph itself. That's the same approach I take with every business I work with today.

If you want people to trust your business, don't just tell them what you sell. Tell them why it matters.

I've written a new blog about why authentic storytelling is becoming more valuable than ever, especially in a world where AI can create content in seconds.

Stop Selling What You Do. Start Sharing Why You Do It.

I'd love to know what you think.

Worried about smiling for the camera? Don't be.

One of the most important parts of my job isn't choosing the right lens or finding the perfect light. It's helping people feel comfortable.

Most business owners I photograph tell me they're not confident in front of the camera. That's completely normal. My job is to create a relaxed atmosphere, so your personality comes through, because the best brand photographs are always the authentic ones.

It helps that I have an endless supply of terrible dad jokes, and seeing as we're in the middle of the World Cup...

⚽ Why was the football stadium so cool? Because it was full of fans ... I hope I haven't scored a bit of an own goal with that one!

If you're looking to achieve your 'goal' of being seen, remembered and trusted, and you've got a little 'extra time' to join me on 9th July for my Mid-Cheshire Mini Brand (Penalty) Shoot, leave a comment or send me a message, and I'll happily send you the booking link.

Even brand photographers have to step in front of the camera sometimes.

It's a good reminder of how it feels to be on the other side of the lens, which is why I always aim to make my clients feel relaxed and comfortable.

If you're an independent Cheshire business owner and you've been putting off updating your business photos, my 'Mid-Cheshire Mini Brand Shoot' on 9th July is a simple way to get professional images in just 45 minutes.

Leave a comment or send me a message, and I'll send you the booking link.

Show, don't tell ...

You can tell people you're friendly.

You can tell people you're professional.

Why a Mini Brand Shoot = Maximum Impact for Your Business

You don't always need a full day in front of the camera to create a strong visual presence for your business.

A mini brand shoot can provide a collection of professional images that help you show up consistently across LinkedIn, your website and social media. Images that tell your story, build trust and help potential clients connect with the person behind the business.

Sometimes a small investment of time can make a big difference to how your business is perceived.

If you'd like to find out more about my upcoming Mid-Cheshire Mini Brand Shoot on July 9th, then please message or leave a comment, and I'll send over the booking link.

This is me and Mollyann, my daughter.

I never really pushed her into photography. She simply grew up around it, tagging along to shoots, quietly observing, and occasionally picking up a camera herself. She’s since built her own career path, now working as a project manager at Poke Marketing in Liverpool.

But every now and then, she still joins me on a shoot, and if I’m being completely honest, sometimes comes away with better photos than I do (just don’t tell her I admitted that).

Watching your child become their own person is a special thing. Watching them become creative, kind and quietly brilliant is something else entirely.

I really couldn’t be prouder.

Happy Father’s Day to all the single fathers out there doing their best, showing up every day, and quietly carrying more than most people will ever realise.

With thanks to Tom McColl for capturing these memorable moments.

📸 Even after years of seeing my photographs published in newspapers and magazines, I still get a real buzz from seeing my work being used by clients.

Whether it's on a social media post, a website, or, in this case, printed on promotional material for the excellent Sue Richards KCC Networking and Business Events Connect & Grow event, it's always rewarding to know the images are helping tell a story and promote a business or event.

That's what brand photography is all about. Creating images that don't just look good, but work hard for the people and organisations that use them.
