I received a very helpful review for the images I recently submitted to the black and white awards.



I admit I am rather preoccupied with explaining the meaning I assign to an image I create and the way I interpret the various layers and elements within. This impresses the words in my mind, as the image is already a part of me.

It's strange how I need to document my interpretation whilst at the same time 'robbing' the viewers of their own discovery.

I will be less explanatory. I will keep my interpretations to myself.

I am so proud to be included in this exhibition to represent diversity!

GAWP! REPRESENTS : Stefania Distante is an award-winning photographer, awarded an Honorable Mention in the highly prestigious International Photography Awards (IPA) 2023.

Pictured here : "The English countryside welcomes everyone; it isn't reserved for the enjoyment of privileged minorities. The images from this project capture an event for asylum seekers and refugees, where kites soared high, symbolising the unity of diverse communities and traditions. The skies embrace migratory birds, and the ground reverberates with all our footsteps, irrespective of our origins. Participants agreed to be portrayed in an unrecognisable manner, highlighting their transition and uncertainty as their lives oscillate between danger and the hope of safety."

Stefania is also exhibiting "Growing Together: a photographic exploration of Community, Heritage and Healing", along with many other artists.

Open Call

The theme is "My bit to help the environment "

Do you (or someone you know) do something that goes towards helping our precious planet? From small gestures to big ones and everything in between.

Recycling, planting new trees, litter picking, making compost, something different, etc.

I am an award-winning photographer currently completing my Master degree at Gloucestershire University.

I am creating a photography catalogue of people helping our world by doing their bit.

I am very proud to have been awarded an Honourable Mention (Non-Professional/Student, Fine Art Portrait category) in the IPA 2023 competition.

Thanks to the University of Gloucestershire tutors and professors for supporting my artistic development and growth: Tony Clancy, Richard Billingham, Julia Peck, Bryony Gillard & Jack Southern.

Thanks to Charlie Bishop (my friend and model) and Panda of Painted Peach (a most talented and kind make-up artist) for their contribution to the making of this image. It was always about the people involved! .E.N.S.A.
