It’s been a little quiet on here recently, but M9 is back! 🙌

Huge thanks to Becky Farrugia & The Coffee Cupboard for a brilliant Autumn market today. It was great catching up with familiar faces, meeting new stallholders and most importantly, meeting some brilliant people ✅

Special shout-out to the young lad (aged 10) who had me chatting about Pythagorean theory and the Fibonacci sequence… I think I may have just met the next mathematical genius! 🤓📐😂

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, bought prints and gifts and listened to me explain my slightly bizarre lensball photography methods! 🔮📱

CASTLETON… YOU’VE GOT ME LOOKING TWICE! 👀📸

I’m slowly realising something with M9 Abstract Photography…

You really don’t need to travel far to find something worth photographing.

Sometimes it’s right outside your front door. 🏡

A reflection in a window.
An old wall.
A bridge.
A tree.
A bit of texture.
Something you’ve walked past 100 times without really seeing it.

And suddenly… it looks completely different. 🤯📸

That’s what I love about abstract photography — finding the unexpected in the everyday.

So let’s see how well Castleton knows Castleton! 👇

🌅 M9 ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY | SUNSET, SUMMER & A LITTLE BIT OF MAGIC 🇮🇩📸

There’s something about a summer sunset in Indonesia that makes you stop… and forget you’re supposed to be taking photographs. 😂

Then you remember you’ve got a lensball.

And suddenly, the sunset has been ‘completely M9’d!’🔮😎

I absolutely LOVE this one — the sharpness of the lensball, the almost complete darkness surrounding it, and then those incredible bursts of orange, yellow, blue and red from the setting sun. 🌅

It almost looks like the lensball has captured its own little universe… while everything around it has disappeared into the darkness. 🌌

And that’s exactly what I love about abstract photography.

📸 You don’t always need to see everything.
🔮 You don’t always need to understand everything.
🎨 Sometimes you just need to look at something from a completely different perspective.

This one was captured during a summer sunset in Indonesia, and honestly… I think the lensball deserves a holiday of its own after this! 😂

Sharp. Dark. Colourful. A little mysterious. And completely M9.

📸 M9 ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY IS BACK IN UPPERMILL! 📸

Back to the place I probably love exploring the most… UPPERMILL! 🖤🤩

Today I arrived armed with my prints in one hand and lensballs in the other. Basically, I looked like I was either setting up a photography stall… or about to perform some sort of very questionable magic trick. 😂🔮📸

The plan was simple: wander around, take some photographs, visit a few of my favourite independent businesses and generally see what I could find through the lensball.

First stop… Authentic Uppermill

Only problem… Authentic was closed ALL DAY! 🤦‍♂️😂 And it turns out a few other businesses had also shut up shop earlier than expected.

Never mind… you can’t photograph an open shop if there isn’t one! 😂

So naturally, I had to recover from this devastating turn of events with a well-deserved pint of craft ale called Boiler House in The Albion. 🍺😎

Then I ended up having a brilliant chat in the Albion, because sometimes the best part of exploring somewhere isn’t what you planned to do… it’s the random conversations you have along the way.

And thankfully… THIS TIME MY LENSBALLS DIDN’T FALL IN THE CANAL! 😂🔮🙌

Although I did venture a little further out from Uppermill towards Diggle Tunnel, following the canal and capturing some more lovely photographs! 🤩

There are some absolute crackers coming… WATCH THIS SPACE! 👀📸

But honestly, the best thing about today wasn’t even the new photographs.

It was the box of M9 prints I had with me. ❤️

People were literally stopping in their tracks, looking through them, marvelling at the photography and asking questions about how they were taken.

And while I was busy wandering around, taking photographs and expanding the M9 catalogue, people were actually buying prints from me too from the box of prints of the local area I brought with me 🤯📸

That genuinely means so much 🖤🤩

M9 isn’t just about selling photographs. It’s about making people stop, look twice and think:

“HOW on earth did you take THAT?!” 😂

That’s exactly what I love about abstract photography.

Uppermill, you’ve done it again. ❤️

💛 THANK YOU, ROYAL TOBY! 📸

What a fantastic Sunday at the Royal Toby! 🙌

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came along, stopped for a chat, browsed the stalls, grabbed some food, had a drink, listened to the singers and, of course… came to have a nosy at M9 Abstract Photography! 🔥📸

It was brilliant seeing so many fantastic independent businesses all under one roof, including:

🍦 Grandpa Greene's Luxury Ice CreamGrandpa — because apparently there is always room for ice cream!
♻️ Repurposed By Bev - raising money for Springhill Hospice

…and plenty more brilliant local businesses doing what they do best!

There was a BBQ, fantastic food, great beers, Sunday lunch, brilliant music and some seriously good singers. Basically, the Royal Toby had everything covered… apart from someone physically dragging me away from the food! 😂🍔🍦

📸 BUT THE BEST PART FOR ME…

A massive THANK YOU to every single customer who supported M9 today. 🖤🤩

It genuinely means so much to see people choosing something that I’ve created, particularly when those customers have a connection to the local area 🙌

One of the highlights was having a customer recognise me from the Manchester Photography Group - Photo Classes, after one of my recent M9 photographs had been featured on their social pages! 😲📸

And then, to top that off, I had a lovely lady from my own estate who recognised M9 from my posts and came over to purchase some beautiful local Castleton prints. 🔮🤩

THAT is exactly why I love doing this. 🖤

I’m not just selling photographs — I’m creating images inspired by the places around us and bringing a little bit of the local community into people’s homes 🙌

Whether you’re from Castleton, Rochdale, Manchester, somewhere further afield, or you’ve simply stumbled across M9 at a market… it genuinely means the world that you’re interested in what I do.

So thank you for every purchase, every like, every share, every conversation and every person who has stopped to ask:

EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE… HERON! 🪶😂

Out on my long run this morning, feeling all proud of myself, smashing the miles and pretending I’m training for the Olympics… when suddenly a HERON appeared in Castleton!

And the funniest part? It was about 4 seconds into my run! 🤣

Spotify had to be turned off. 🎵❌
Strava had to be paused. 🏃‍♂️⏸️
Phone camera had to be switched on. 📸✅

I think this is officially the fastest I’ve ever abandoned a run for photography.

Honestly, I’ve never paused Strava so quickly in my life. One second I’m setting off full of motivation, the next I’m stood by the canal doing an emergency wildlife photo shoot like a contestant on Springwatch. 🏃‍♂️➡️📸

This is exactly why M9 loves getting outdoors — you never know what’s waiting around the next bend. The canal was calm, the air was lovely and fresh, and there I was thinking:

“Am I still on a run, or have I accidentally become a full-time heron paparazzi?” 😅

Lots of pride today, lots of miles completed, and a bonus wildlife encounter thrown in for free. And to make it even better, this was my 75th Strava recorded run! 🎉🏃‍♂️

I mean, you’ve got to celebrate a milestone somehow… some people buy cake, I apparently turn off Spotify and chase a heron with my camera after 4 seconds. 😂🪶📸

Has anyone else seen the Castleton heron recently, or is it just following me because it wants its photo taken for M9? 👀

🎨 M9’s had a full-on art day today… and I’ve discovered I may have missed my calling! 😅

Just me, a pile of brushes, inks, pigments, and absolutely zero idea where the next experiment was going 🤣

Today’s techniques included:

🌀 Marbling art with different inks and pigments
🎨 Dabbing textures and patterns
💥 And the unexpected star of the day… the squeegee!

Honestly, all I want for my 32nd birthday is a decent squeegee. Forget watches, aftershave, or fancy gadgets — apparently I’m now the sort of person who gets excited about dragging paint across a canvas or taking photos 🤩🤣

The best part has been experimenting, making a mess, trying new styles, and seeing what abstract creations appear. That’s what M9 is all about — thinking creatively, outside the box, and having fun with art and photography 💯
