There's a lot of fun to be had taking photos from floor level, especially at a ceilidh! I was at a welcome evening at CatStrand for members of 特定非営利活動法人 鳥の劇場 (Bird Theatre from Japan) who are collaborating with The Galloway Agreement on a production of Towa Mura. After shooting from various angles, I realised that getting down to floor level dramatically enhanced the sense of movement and energy.
I should mention that if you have a flip-out screen on your camera it makes it a lot easier than trying to squeeze your cheek against the floor so you can see what's happening...

That's a wrap! Spring Fling weekend has now ended, and I have dozens of hours ahead of me attempting edit all the people I photographed individually into the "Crowd" scene!
It's been a fun, fascinating, and at times more than a little exhausting weekend, but I really couldn't have done it without the support of a fantastic team! So huge and heartfelt thanks and a big shout out to Kerry for keeping track of who was taking part and where each person was standing; Ellie who was also filming both the event and behind the scenes; my daughter, Meg, for keeping visitors (and us) supplied with incredible home-baked nibbles, while raising money for our local food bank; and Eva who was here for our first (and busiest) day, doing the meet-and-greet - and even went out round the Crichton Estate to encourage people to come and join in!
Massive thanks also have to go to the Crichton Trust for letting me use that huge room in Kindar House for the event.
And of course to everyone who turned up and took part!
Tomorrow will be the less frenetic taking down of all the photos from the walls.

What can you expect to find at Studio 83 on the Orange Route this Spring Fling weekend? Let me tell you all about it!
And after visiting me at Kindar House, also here on the Crichton Estate, is Kevin Reid in Studio 82, and ClayWorks in Studios 84 and 85
Lots to see and do! Looking forward to seeing you 😊

I've been busy today preparing for Spring Fling!
As well as the photographing visitors for the Crowd - I'm making sure there will be plenty of photos to explore, dotted around the room. So if you'd like to visit me at Studio 83 on the Orange Route (at Kindar House up at The Crichton in Dumfries) this weekend, but don't want your photo taken, there will still be lots to look at and find out about.
Hope to see you there! 😊

Had a fun time with Chris and Lauren of Clay Works putting up the signs to help visitors find our studios at Spring Fling this weekend! Along with Kevin Reid (studio 82) there will be 4 of us up at the Crichton Estate in Dumfries. A great variety of creativity all within easy walking distance from each other! Hope to see you there 😊

Helping my wife, Maggie, hang some of her paintings ready for Spring Fling this weekend (Studio 28 on the Purple Route in Kirkcudbright).
I forget just how much they sing to each other when you have several of Maggie's paintings together - it becomes an immersive environment, where you can fall into hidden worlds and deep emotional experiences.
Photos never do justice to Maggie's work (and I say this as a photographer). The textures change and shift depending on the angle of the light. And they need to be experienced both close up and standing back. Every time you look, you find something else.
This is not décor to match your carpet and curtains - this is art that speaks to deep inner parts of your psyche you didn't know existed.
It's not for everyone.
And that's OK - it doesn't have to be.
But for those who are interested then you have to grab this opportunity to see so many of her paintings together.

And a quick shout out to Phil Crennell for creating the wonderful trestle which Maggie has already started covering in fascinating items that she uses in her creative process.
