A brilliant day out at the Phase Purple Fun Dog Show 🐾

From waggiest tails to proud poses in the ring, this was everything a community dog event should be—fun, relaxed, and full of personality 🐶✨

Massive credit to everyone involved in organising it and to all the owners who brought along such incredible dogs. So many different characters, all just enjoying the day ❤️

These are a selection of quick event snaps, lightly edited in Lightroom to keep things natural and true to the day 📷
(My full dog shoots are a much more detailed Photoshop finish.)

I’ll be sharing more images over the next few days—keep an eye out, you might spot your dog 👀

Meet Rio — poised amongst Cumbria’s snowdrops, rendered in monochrome for a more sculptural feel. 🖤

Shot on the Sony A7R III + 70–200mm f/2.8 GM, this portrait leans into contrast and form. With a Dalmatian, black and white isn’t a stylistic gimmick — it’s a natural extension of the breed. Stripping away colour simplifies the frame and lets light, texture, and those unmistakable markings carry the image.

The edit here is intentional but restrained. Tonal shaping, gentle retouching, background control — all designed to guide the eye without shouting. The goal isn’t transformation; it’s refinement. Drawing forward what was already present in that moment.

Editing isn’t about adding.
It’s about revealing.

My own woodland explorer.
My faithful companion.

Chester might be a Yorkiepoo, but give him a mossy mound and a beam of light and he stands like he’s surveying his domain. Chest out, completely assured in his small-but-mighty frame.

He’s there on the early wanderings, the unhurried afternoons, the quiet moments waiting for the light to fall just right. No agenda. Just loyalty — content to be wherever I am. Small dog. Big presence. Always.

You’re not just capturing posture or expression — you’re preserving presence.

Same moment. Two interpretations.

In colour, the image holds onto place — the warmth of the woodland, the seasonal tones, the sense of Ivy standing within her environment. It feels grounded, contextual, and quietly narrative.

In monochrome, the distraction drops away. Light, texture, and form take over, and Ivy’s posture becomes the story. It feels more graphic, more focused, and arguably more direct.

So the question isn’t which is “better,” but which version speaks to you.

Strong portraits don’t happen by accident.
They come from slowing things down, working at the dog’s pace, and creating space for real expression to surface.

This kind of image isn’t about tricks or perfect obedience — it’s about presence, confidence, and capturing your dog exactly as they are right now. Ears up, eyes engaged, personality front and centre. These are the portraits clients come back for years later. 🐾

If you’d love a photograph of your dog that feels considered, timeless, and unmistakably them, this is exactly what my sessions are designed to deliver.

Nevil amongst the snowdrops — alert, curious, and very much on his own agenda. 🌱🐾
Early spring doesn’t always mean stillness, and Nevil made that abundantly clear. Nose working, ears tuned, eyes scanning — he was far more interested in what was happening around him than in striking a “posed” moment.

That’s part of what I love about these sessions. Not every portrait is about calm or composure; sometimes it’s about presence, curiosity, and capturing a dog exactly as they are in that instant. The snowdrops and soft woodland light simply framed the energy he brought with him.

Who else has a dog that treats every shoot like an investigation? 🐶👇

A little throwback to Milo’s Puppy to Pooch journey — and honestly, this one still melts me.
Surrounded by buttercups and soft summer greens, Milo was already stepping into his grown-up Labrador presence here: calm, attentive, and quietly charismatic. 🌼🐾

There’s something timeless about this moment — that relaxed posture, tongue out, eyes locked in — as if he knew this wasn’t just playtime, but part of his story being documented. These sessions are never just about photographs; they’re about marking chapters, and Milo wore this one beautifully. 🖤✨

Who else has a dog that can switch from full chaos to composed model in a heartbeat? Drop a 🐶 if that sounds familiar 👇

Colour or monochrome — presence transcends palette.
This is about form, texture, and attitude, with the crocuses doing just enough to whisper “spring.”
