I took this picture at Bristol Zoo some time ago then promptly forgot all about it.

Today I was thinking more about how animals feel in captivity that led me to a new word: Zoochosis

“a form of psychosis that develops in animals held captive in zoos. Most often, it manifests in what are called stereotypic behaviours, which are often monotonous, obsessive, repetitive actions that serve no purpose.”

That kind of sounds like familiar behaviour we see somewhere else !

In any case it’s worth contemplating the arguments for and against keeping animals in captivity.

In between some of the talks and workshops at space is needed to reflect. Lucky I had my bike. What better place to step outside and explore :

#1 “fogbow” and Welsh poppies near Mwnt
#2 nature at work while we sleep
#3 the ugly crocodile of Poppit
#4 Gareth and Ben’s beer spot in the rain
#5 rule of thirds (ish)
#6 Never forget swimming with Cath and spider crabs
#7 Final dip. No dolphins but still awesome
#8 A talk, but can’t unsee footwear

As ever, nature delivered but I mindful of more than one recent sad story where people have lost loved ones to the water. A reminder to value what we have.

After a day with .y.u._ice searching for dipping spots, we realised that the biggest and most spectacular waterfalls seldom have the best pools. The best ones are in the peatlands closer to the source where the geology steps and changes.

Then you get back to the car park and a huge sign points to waterfalls not 2 minutes’ walk away. The best pool of the day.

Stay curious, keep unaware of the obvious.

Here are some of the men in a magical place - an ancient remnant of temperate rainforest deep on Bodmin Moor.

We had almost every type of weather today.
