Jungle diaries 🎥

Once again India did not disappoint. Deep in the central forests there is a magical landscape that is unmatched. My 6th national park in included Tigers, jackals with a kill, owls, flying foxes, 10th century mountain top monuments, lush semi-deciduous forests, 38 degrees every day & glorious Indian breakfasts in the bush with beautiful people.

Today you would have been 7. Today would have been like any other day, except it’s the first sunrise I’ve seen since you passed. 5 months of emptiness. Because you were a part of me. A big part. And most of me left when you did too. I know it’s “just a do dog” to a lot of people but it was very much more to me. We were meant to become a family of 4. We were so excited when we found out on New Year’s Eve last year that little Elsie would be joining us. And that life would be complete. Except life doesn’t work like that. Life is cruel. Life teaches us to never take a day, or a sunrise walk, for granted. I’d do anything to have you back on your birthday, or any day for that matter. But on this winter solstice we finally got up to see the sunrise again & thought of you, as I do every minute of every day.

What can a 6am sunrise safari look like?

Sometimes it can be eerily quiet, just the sound of the birds. And often the sound of hot air balloons heading up into the sky if you’re in certain areas like we were here in Kenya.

And other times, it can be chaos. It is feeding time for lots of animals after all.

Hyenas quickly became one of my favourite animals of track in the bush, working hard together to get food but also avoid the lions, leopards & wild dogs who also want that same meal.

The sheer volume of predators in the Masai Mara make it one of the stand out destinations to view game like this.

Tu Hwnt I’r Bont is a beautiful and historic grade II listed 15th century tearoom located in the small town of Llanrwst, North Wales and walking over the Grade 1 listed bridge built in 1636 to get to it is magical in itself.
