Bonnie Tyler was a Welsh icon and it was apparent how personal that connection felt. So many people came to say goodbye, and almost everyone we spoke to had a story about her.

One woman in her 80s remembered Bonnie, aged 14, working in her local fruit and veg shop, another reminisced about singing karaoke at Bonnie’s house. And although the stories were all different, the same words kept coming up- humble, friendly, generous.
She never forgot where she came from, and it was clear how much that meant to the people here.

A few months ago, I spent the morning with the team at Hay-on-Wye Fire Station, where writer Greg Noone explored the realities of on-call fire stations across the UK.

Many rural stations rely on part time firefighters who have regular jobs alongside their roles in the fire service, rather than having crews based at the station 24/7. With rural incidents, including seasonal wildfires, increasing, these on call services are under growing pressure each year.

Tareena Shakil photographed for The Sunday Times magazine. Tareena was the first British woman convicted of travelling to Syria in 2014 to join ISIS. She was sentenced to six years in prison.

More than a decade later, she now speaks publicly about radicalisation and rebuilding her life-she has amassed a following of more than 50k on TikTok, where she shares relationship advice.

Earlier this year, I was commissioned by , the national institute for health data science, to travel across the UK documenting four community-led projects funded through their ‘Take the Lead’ programme.

I had a great time joining Retreat 2 Rebirth in Leeds on one of their weekend walks - a project which brings together movement, reflective journalling and creative practice for African and minority ethnic communities.

The SA Foundation in Harlow, uses sport and mentorship to break down barriers to confidence and opportunity for young people in areas of deprivation. ‘She Moves Harlow’ focuses on girls’ football, combining sport with simple data tracking to help participants explore connections between movement, mood and wellbeing.
