Aberfan, 60 years on. Remembering the 116 children and 28 adults who died when a colliery tip slid onto a primary school and several houses below. The community never received justice for a disaster that was avoidable.

In July, I photographed the recording of Symffoni’r Môr Mawr at Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff - a specially commissioned piece of music gifted by the Welsh Government to the United States to mark its 250th anniversary.

There was a real buzz on the day. After setting up the lighting, we had a short window to capture the group portrait before rehearsals and recording began. It was great to see it all come together, with a full orchestra, choir and a brilliant cast of musicians including Sir Bryn Terfel, Chloe Flower, Karen Ní Bhroin, Ellen Williams and National Poet of Wales, Hanan Issa.

The piece was formally presented at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. this September.

Bonnie Tyler was a Welsh icon and it was apparent how personal that connection felt. So many people came to say goodbye, and almost everyone we spoke to had a story about her.

One woman in her 80s remembered Bonnie, aged 14, working in her local fruit and veg shop, another reminisced about singing karaoke at Bonnie’s house. And although the stories were all different, the same words kept coming up- humble, friendly, generous.
She never forgot where she came from, and it was clear how much that meant to the people here.

A few months ago, I spent the morning with the team at Hay-on-Wye Fire Station, where writer Greg Noone explored the realities of on-call fire stations across the UK.

Many rural stations rely on part time firefighters who have regular jobs alongside their roles in the fire service, rather than having crews based at the station 24/7. With rural incidents, including seasonal wildfires, increasing, these on call services are under growing pressure each year.

Tareena Shakil photographed for The Sunday Times magazine. Tareena was the first British woman convicted of travelling to Syria in 2014 to join ISIS. She was sentenced to six years in prison.

More than a decade later, she now speaks publicly about radicalisation and rebuilding her life-she has amassed a following of more than 50k on TikTok, where she shares relationship advice.
