Yesterday Talgarth Ladies welcomed Goytre to play their last fixture of the group stages to decide what league they would be going into.
Talgarth started well keeping shape and working well as a team, controlling the ball and the tempo of the game in the early stages. Jade Maddy came close to opening the scoreline when a corner fell close to her feet which she struck well going inches past the post.
Talgarth Ladies continuing to press received a corner which Caitlin O’Shea stepped up to swing in. A little confusion between Goytres defence allowed the ball to drop before the keeper finding the inside of the net making it 1-0.
Goytre did manage to settle and Talgarth’s back line was called into action on a few occasions preventing an equaliser. On the 36th minute, defender Catrin Davies ran from her own goal box beating 3 players and breaking onto Goytres goal where she stayed cool-headed and slotted it with no difficulties past the keeper.
2-0.
With the first half coming to an end, Talgarth received a throw-in deep in Goytres half. With some well worked play from the throw between Katie Nutter, Molly Watts, Lucy Belcher and Sophie Combstock, Caitlin O’Shea found herself in space behind Goytres back line taking a well driven shot scoring the last goal of the first half.
3-0.
In the second half, Talgarth Ladies continued to press and around the 50th minute, a good through ball from Taran Fitzgerald sent Meg Roe on a run towards goal who rounded the keeper and placed the ball into the net.
4-0.
Goytre at this point in the game started playing some good football, matching Talgarth Ladies in the middle and creating a few good chances. But they weren’t rewarded for their efforts as Talgarth’s goalkeeper Bethan Walton was switched on to collect anything that came her way.
With the game coming to an end, one final play caught Goytres keeper off her line when midfielder Taran Fitzgerald struck a ball from close to 40 yards, lobbing the keeper ending the game at 5-0.
