If you’ve been stuck shooting on Auto mode because manual settings feel intimidating, setting your aperture to control depth of field is the most satisfying place to break free.

It gives you instant creative control over your images.

Tip: Wide apertures like f/2.8 or f/4 make your focal point razor-thin, so always double-check that your focus point is locked right on the crispest edge of your main subject.

Which camera setting do you find most confusing when trying to get creative shots?

Taking photos for your business shouldn't feel like a chore.

When you know how to unlock the hidden settings built into your smartphone, capturing genuine behind-the-scenes moments or product shots during your everyday walk becomes second nature.

Quick Tip: Clean your camera lens! We touch our phones constantly, and a greasy lens is the #1 reason for soft, hazy photos.

What’s one story about your business you could tell visually this week if you felt confident with your phone camera?

Learn how to capture high-impact photos on Friday, 4th September (10am–12pm) at Roath Park Lake with Zokit.

Easy theory, practical walking, and optional networking lunch afterward.

Open to members & non-members!

It’s easy to rely on vibrant colours to make an image striking, but black and white photography forces us to look deeper at composition and shadow.

It’s an incredible way to train your photographic eye.

Tip: Look for high-contrast scenes with harsh light and deep shadows; bold contrast often translates into powerful monochrome images.

Do you prefer moody, high-contrast black and white photos, or soft, subtle grey tones?

Walking through a park, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the background visual clutter.

Shallow depth of field is your best tool to instantly simplify a scene and direct the viewer's eye exactly where you want it.

Whether you're brand new to manual settings or looking to refine your composition, joining a group session makes tackling camera settings so much easier.

Tip: Step as close to your subject as your lens will allow, and push your background as far away as possible. That physical distance creates far more blur than aperture alone.

What’s your absolute favourite subject to isolate with a blurry background—flowers, portraits, or detail shots?

Grab your spot via the link or drop a comment below if you have any questions about equipment!

With September right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to level up your visual
content strategy.

Imagine heading into autumn with the confidence to capture crisp, professional-looking images for your website, social media, and newsletters using just your phone.

Quick Tip: Use built-in phone editing tools to slightly boost "Contrast" and "Warmth" rather than applying heavy pre-set filters—it keeps your images looking crisp and professional.

Is your phone camera roll ready to supply your visual marketing for the next quarter?

Join us next week on Friday, 4th September (10am–12pm) at Roath Park Lake with Zokit! Simple theory, outdoor practice, and an optional networking lunch at Terra Nova Café.

Open to members & non-members!

I remember standardising my camera settings years ago, thinking photography was all about getting the technically "perfect" picture.

I spent so much time staring at buttons that I completely missed the world right in front of me.

Everything changed when I stopped focusing on the rules and started looking at light, shapes, and moments.

That is the heart behind our upcoming sessions for late summer and autumn across Cardiff and Newport.

From soft background blur in Roath Park to the bold contrasts of black and white, the striking angles of Cardiff Bay's architecture, and abstract urban views, every class is designed to help you slow down, see differently, and enjoy your time behind the lens.

Our August street class has already wrapped up, and remaining spots for the rest of the season are filling up fast!

Saturday mornings are made for fresh air, great conversation, and a touch of creativity.

Next Saturday, 29th August (11am - 1pm), we’ll be walking the scenic paths of Roath Park in Cardiff for our late-summer photography class.

We'll be framing everything from lake reflections to late summer blooms for our 4 Seasons Project exhibition coming early next year.

No ego, no overwhelming jargon—just straightforward, encouraging guidance in a friendly group environment.

Bring your camera, bring your phone, bring the kids (with an adult)—just bring your curiosity!

Tip: Look down at the water’s edge. Mossy stones, ripples around duck feet, and drifting leaves can make incredibly moody, atmospheric close-up shots.
