Kate Flashkate Bridal Make Up is the uber-talented artist behind all of the 21 Tales of Real Women hair & make-up.

When she was asked by one of our participants if she would have her portrait taken, she laughed it off.

“When I'm slimmer, when I’ve covered the grey hair, when I've slept more, when I'm less busy, when my skin is clearer.”

When she realised that these were just excuses, she transformed those words into “if not now, then when?”

"I normally hide behind the camera, [so] this is a massive push for me.”

And I completely get it. No matter how confident anyone may feel or come across when they’re in her element, being in front of the camera can feel vulnerable. And this is PRECISELY where the magic lies!

When there is no more hiding. When it’s no longer about comparison but all about enjoying, feeling, playing, appreciating, and celebrating what makes us who we are.

It was so exciting to watch Kate open up throughout her photoshoot and to be able to capture her warmth, her strength, her power, and her beauty in her portraits.

Thank you, Kate, for making everyone else feel beautiful always, and for trusting me to see you ❤

👇 Don't we all agree it would have been a real shame for Kate not to step in front of the camera?!

“I feel the strength in this picture. It’s where I am right now, owning all of my experiences” - Janine

“[This is] what I've gone through to be here right now and [I’m] really comfortable with expressing that.”

“It's an interesting place, looking back at my life and seeing so much beauty.”

“I'm able to hold both aspects, the difficult things that I've gone through and the really beautiful things that I've gone through to be here right now. It's all beautiful.”

“That's what this picture represents for me. Being able to have almost half a century of life lived here.”

A portrait is SO much more than what you see in the image. It’s a lifetime of experiences captured at that moment.

A legacy that will be left behind. It’s emotion, it’s passion, it’s vitality.

It’s whatever it means to YOU.

And this is what makes me love what I do so much.

I left my corporate career when I felt that my work had become too intangible. I wanted to make an impact on a much more personal level.

So being able to offer that safe space where my clients can express themselves in new ways, and where together we can capture their essence means everything to me.

What experiences have made you into the person you are today and would you like to capture them in one picture?

"I am happy to have accepted myself, just as I am - perfectly imperfect." - Ofelia

Ofelia is such a kind, beautiful and humble soul.

Watch as she tells us what is was like being photographed for '21 Tales of Real Women'.

Including what she was worried about, how we challenged her thinking, and how most of all, she felt comfortable and empowered before / during / and after her shoot.

Even if you think you're not "capable" of being in front of the lens, let me tell you this - You will NEVER regret the opportunity to discover your true beauty.

Are you ready to challenge your perception of yourself?

“I don't fit the image of getting married young, wearing hijab, having babies, or living under my parent's roof.” - Thana

“To my relatives and friends back home I’m unconventional and somewhat rebellious.”

“I've traveled around but not as much as I would have loved as there's so much to see in the world. I've lived in a few places and each city had an impact on me. I've met so many beautiful people and have friends that I hope will always remain in my life.”

Thana beautifully embodies what it means to be spirited.

Because going against what's expected of you takes courage.

The experiences and the people she's met have made her who she is today. Moving away from her country, her family, experiencing the world, and forging a career she thrives in.

A strong, passionate, ‘rebellious’ woman who is intrinsically herself.

And THIS is what makes her so beautiful.

“When I grew up, beauty was low down on the priority list” - Aneta

For most, it’s all too common to feel defined by traditional beauty standards. Time and time again I meet incredible women who often feel this way.

But it’s our life experience that molds us into the person we are today.

As a child, Aneta never grew up feeling like she wasn't able or allowed to do something.

“I played with boys as much as I played with girls and could do pretty much anything.” “My parents worked a lot to get everything they have now and I think this is now incorporated in my DNA.”

After her '21 Tales of Real Women' photoshoot, I asked Aneta: what is beauty to you? And she answered with this:
“It's when you look at something or someone and it makes you feel good. It doesn't have to be beautiful for everyone, it may not be 'beautiful' from the outside”

You see, beauty shouldn't be defined by any kind of standards.

Beauty is SO much more than that.

⭐ It’s how you decide to shine your light
⭐ It’s how you make people smile
⭐ It’s letting yourself be vulnerable
⭐ It’s celebrating what makes you who you are

Beauty is defined by YOU.

It’s time to change the stigma around beauty.

I’d love to know your thoughts on this subject. What is beauty to you? 👇

🥂 Cheers to new beginnings today!

Here we are - April 12th! I can’t tell you how impatiently I’ve been waiting for this day. As well as being excited to get a haircut and to enjoy drinks & catch-ups al fresco, for me today is a special day as it marks when ALL photoshoots can resume. And even more so as I’ve been raring to start a project very close to my heart, that I’ve called “21 Tales of Real Women”.

⭐ 21 Tales of Real Women ⭐ is an initiative to photograph womxn of diverse backgrounds, ages, and sizes and show that beauty isn’t defined by some kind of unrealistic standards. It’s about celebrating their inner strength, their life, their achievements, and their beauty that shines from within.

My goal with this project is much more than just "pretty pictures". It’s about transforming the way every woman I photograph sees herself. It’s about looking deeper, connecting with the inner self; and changing the definition of beauty, one portrait, one story at a time.

🔥 The 1st photoshoot of the series will take place this Friday with the most kind, adventurous, smart, and fun loving soul; and I am so excited!

➡️ I am looking for 21 womxn to participate over the course of the project. There is no selection criteria or application process - everyone who has a story to share and wants to be part of something meaningful is welcome to participate.

Signature Portrait Experiences will resume in July, so the question is "How would you like to see yourself?"

Glam'ed up? Relaxed? Cosy? Artistically? With your partner? With your children? With your mum?...

The options are infinite, and that's why when you book a Signature Portrait Session with me we always start with a design consultation to imagine a shoot just for you. We do this by:
⭐ Chatting about your personality, your style, your passions.
⭐ Looking at examples to see what you are most drawn to.
⭐ Talking about what sides of you you want to see or reconnect with.

This is the first step in the process and it's where ideas start coming to life, when you get a first taste of what you might look and feel like on the day of your portrait session.
