Our final meeting for the 2025/26 season was our Annual General Meeting, preceded by some social drinks and followed by Trophy presentations.

Our Chairman’s report described a very healthy situation for our club with sustained membership numbers and excellent results for our members in external competitions. Our offering of lively hall meetings with options for zoom continues to provide options for all our membership. Our special interest groups and workshops add increasing value to the photographic experience and development of all. Our upcoming summer shoots have a great variety of on offer for the ‘off’ season.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mark Randall, who has performed the role of Chair for the last three years, steering the club through post covid and providing an inspiring leadership whilst not forgetting his own photographic adventures.

We welcome Tony Watt into the new role of Chair and look forward to a new season. More information to follow on our opening event.

Our final presentation of the season promises not to disappoint.

Monday 18th May at 19.30
Burpham Village Hall

We are delighted to welcome Geoff Young on ‘Flash Photography’.

A presentation on the creative use of flash - specifically ‘mixing’ artificial light with ambient light. If you have an independent flash gun, bring it along. Geoff will have a few flashguns that people can use for the session. We will do a few actual experiments to mix the practical with the technical. Please note that this session is starting a little earlier than usual to take advantage of the ambient light and for practical reasons, this will not be available on Zoom. We look forward to welcoming you to Burpham Village Hall.

Tickets at just £5.00 plus fees available from Eventbrite.

Coming up on Monday 11th May we have a very special event with two of our members presenting on some specialist areas.

Guildford - A photographer's perspective of a historic town" by Nick Bale.

Nick has been an official tour leader in Guildford for over 8 years. He will be sharing some of his stories and suggesting interesting places for photography.

"Eye in the sky - Drone photography" Quinton Vidal-Taylor.

Quinton recently had a drone image selected for the PAGB Masters of Print. His talk, illustrated with his images, will cover technical and legal issues and thoughts on kit.

Although we are not selling tickets for this event, as usual, anyone considering membership is welcome to come along to a free session for a ‘try before you buy’.

Just notify our membership secretary at: [email protected]

The presentations start at 8.00 p.m. at Burpham Village Hall, but come a little earlier for a chance to meet our members.

Our final competition of the season took place on Monday evening which marked a new enterprise for GPS. This comp was for phone (or mobile device) images only, but all usually permitted processing allowed.

We had a strong entry with a diverse mix of genres demonstrating the versatility and capability of our phone cameras.

Many thanks to all who participated.

Thanks also go to David Hughes, from Godalming, who stepped in at short notice to fill the breach for judging duties. Thank you David.

The winning image, and subsequently awarded the Graham Mansfield Trophy, came from Sean McCarthy with his creative image ‘Millennium Flow’.

Many congratulations Sean!

On Monday 20th April, at 8,00 p.m., we are delighted to be welcoming Michael Berkeley who will be delivering his presentation on Sports Photography.

There is still time for non-members to pick up a ticket (at just £5.00, plus fees) and you can either join us at Burpham Village Hall, or via zoom.

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1986758372775?aff=oddtdtcreator

The talk provides an insight into Michael's life as a freelance sport photographer and is structured around:

Before - what I do to prepare before going out on assignment (my kit, doing my homework, clarifying requirements etc);

During - what happens during the shoot itself (arrival routine, camera settings, shooting plan);

After - what I do after the assignment (post production workflow, what to do with the photos, charging).

The talk is profusely illustrated with images taken over the last few years, and metadata is provided for each photo, to show how it was taken.

We look forward to seeing you!
