Burnley from Above Burnley from Above is a new page looking at Burnley from a different angle, from above.

Using drone photography, we want to capture and share some of the best things about our Lancashire Mill Town, and maybe some things that need improvement.

The 'Burnley from Above' for today is a view of somewhere we have all been hundreds of times, Yorkshire Street.

The drone was about 40m above Harry Potts Way (Brunshaw Rd in 'old money') looking towards the town centre, with the viaduct and Leeds/Liverpool canal travelling through the image.

To the left of the image is St Mary's Church and Convent. I am not sure if any nuns actually live there any more as I haven't seen any for ages.

Beyond this you can see the former Taskers building off Plumb St and to the right with the blue wall is the former Rose & Thistle club (I used to pick up glasses and work behind the bar there in the early 1980's) which I believe is a cafe now?

Beyond the canal we can clearly see the St Peter's Centre, Keirby Hotel and the railway viaduct on Ashfield Rd.

And look at the countryside on our doorstep!!

Today's 'Burnley from Above' photo looks at a familiar Burnley building, the Keirby Hotel.

And now the scaffolding is coming down it looks a lot better than the tired building we have had previously.

Leys hope the fully refurbished hotel looks as good when opened and is a nice place to stay for visitors to the town.

If we get comments on this post re 'migrants' I will turn off commenting or delete the post!

Today for 'Burnley from Above' we take an 'arty' look at one of my favourite places, Turf Moor, bathed in sunshine with the ground staff working to make the pitch look at good as it can be.

A little green oasis amongst the scorched grass all around!

For today's 'Burnley from Above' photo we look at one of the Jewels in the Crown of Burnley, Towneley Hall.

Taken in June 2026 in the setting sun, we see the beautiful 14th Century building in all its glory, set in 180 hectares of parkland, a must for anyone visiting the area.

For today's 'Burnley from Above, we look at Scott Park, from 100m above Calderbrook Avenue.

You can see Manchester Road to the right of the photo and Pasturegate to the left.

Running from left to right at the top is Coal Clough Lane with the playing field between Melrose Avenue and Kinross Street top left.

Top right you can just make our the viaduct that runs alongside Ashfield Road and Burnley College campus beyond that.

For todays ‘Burnley from Above' photo we took the drone up above the very bottom end of Billington Road to see something that you won’t ever see from the road, its the Enviro Fuels site which is accessed from Accrington Rd, just passed the entrance to Valley Gardens.

For today's 'Burnley from Above' pic, we had the drone almost 90m above the Leeds & Liverpool Canal looking towards The Mitre junction.

Below is what is one of the 'jewels' of Burnley's heritage, part of the Weavers Triangle.

Front and centre is Slaters Terrace, which has been extensively restored and repurposed, and Sandygate runs off to the left with Sandygate Mill on the right of it.

Crossing the canal is Sandygate Bridge leading to Victoria Mill, cladded in rusting steel and now home to the University of Lancashire (formerly UCLan).

Beyond that are the houses on the site of the former Trafalgar Flats (maybe) and then the building that replaced the Pleasant Home and Pride club.

For today's 'View from Above' we took the drone for a short flight to capture some photo''s of the Circus while it was in town last month, and decided to capture this photo of Towneley Hall in the early evening sun.

You don't always realise what a lovely setting surrounds this jewel in Burnley's historic landscape.
