Male NZ Sea Lions weigh a whoooopping 320-450kg! About 80% of the time I spent photographing them they were incredibly lazy and placid. Every now and then though, they’d kick off like this and make me momentarily question my life choices. 🥲😂

Name something cuter than a baby fur seal…🦭 ⁣I’ll wait! Those puppy dog eyes do more than let seal’s get their own way… The round lenses in their eyes allow them to focus on light that is refracted through water and so they have excellent underwater vision. 👀

Before our time with - we were fortunate enough to see some koala’s in the wild too. Considering they spend 18-20 hours a day sleeping, seeing some with their eyes open required a bit of luck! ⁣Koala’s are often thought of as cute and cuddly - I wanted to try and show a bit more of their wild side in this shot. 🐨

It was a surprise to see this familiar UK species on our travels in New Zealand! Apparently the Little Owl was introduced in the 1800s in a misguided attempt to control pests and are now fairly common throughout South Island. ⁣

We had the dreamiest evening watching the sunset with a huge group of Sea Lions on our first week in NZ. Spending a decent amount of time with a group lets you watch all the group dynamics playing out. Most of them started out as chill as this, with the jostling and roaring increasing the more the sun set! Finally getting a chance to look through some images on our ferry to north island… if you aren’t a fan of Sea Lions and Fur Seals, prepare to be sick of me! ⁣
