"I could do this job with my eyes closed"

Even after 12 years and 400 weddings, it's not something I'd ever say. You're always learning something from every wedding and event. Earlier last month I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful couple at Bude Beach Hut Weddings The weather may not have been on our side but as you can see that didn't dampen their spirits.

But it did mean that I did literally have to close one eye, then the other in the Cornwall sandstorm!

Since my early days of wedding photography, I've kept a journal after every wedding and event to write down:

• Things that went well
• Mistakes I made
• Improvements I'll make next time

This has kept me honest, helped to continue to me improve and reminded me that you've always got something new to learn, no matter how many weddings you've photographed.

So what improvements would I make for next time?

My husband, who was working with me, suggested we should add goggles to the kit-bag. He has actually bought some now, but I think it may be easier without them 😀 👓 👓

As far as I'm concerned, wedding photography starts with trust.

Yesterday, I was at a wedding fair at the beautiful Hotel Meudon with Simply Weddings, and it was a great talking with some nice couples, with many coming to a wedding fair for the very first time, and in some chats, either the bride, groom, or in some cases, both say: "I hate having my photo taken."

It’s something that, when I go to a wedding fair, I hear a lot, and it’s something that I completely understand, because most of us don't like having our photo taken, and when we do, it’s probably for a special occasion, and we want those photographs for a lifetime.

When I started (400 weddings ago!), it didn't take me long to realise that it wasn’t just about showing up and taking beautiful photos, it was about knowing when to be there and when not, and understanding when someone needs a bit of reassuring.

As a recent bride myself, I know just how quickly the day goes, which is why feeling comfortable and being able to trust the person behind the camera will always matter more than anything written on a price list ❤️🌸

A quiet time for weddings, and I’ve been spending a little time in the studio for a change of pace. These shoots give me the space to explore ideas, and push things visually in a different environment. So as well as photos I’ve been doing bits of behind the scenes video, and it’s been fun seeing the it come together in motion as well. Not that I plan to stop being a photographer! But here’s another one of the videos from a recent session.

My 2026/27 diary is open for weddings, events, corporate headshots, personal branding, and editorial/fashion projects. I’m Cornwall based, but I'm regularly in London, and available for UK-wide travel.

Sometimes the best shot means stepping right to the edge.

Not every wedding photo is taken standing comfortably on a beautiful beach or in a dreamy country venue.

Sometimes it’s about finding the right height, the right angle, the right moment and the beautiful light, while staying calm and aware of the space around you.

When I’m in the zone, I also forget I don’t even like heights 😅

One of those moments that reminds me why I love my work.

As a wedding photographer, feedback like this means everything. Not because of the gifts (although they were lovely, and I'm now a fan of Tregothnan tea 😀 ) but because it reflects trust people have in me, and the experience of being invited into one of the most important days of someone’s life - as well as this time having the honour of being a witness, along with my husband who works with me.

Going into a new year, it’s a good reminder to me the real value of what I do isn’t just the images, it’s the relationships built too.

Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference🎂🥳

Last week, we celebrated my daughter's birthday with a lovely family meal at the Widemouth Manor in Bude. As you do, we brought our own cake along, expecting them to light the candles and bring it out after our meal.

But the team there went above and beyond, beautifully decorating it with extra touches (including fresh strawberries!) that turned our celebration into something even more special. I've been to plenty of birthday celebrations over the years, and I've never experienced that level of care before. That one small gesture? It's guaranteed we'll be going back soon!

It got me thinking about how the little details often create the most lasting memories. As a wedding photographer with over 12 years of experience, I've learned to carry a few essentials in my kit, like plasters for unexpected accidents, safety pins for quick fixes, or tissues for those happy (or emotional) tears. They're small things, but it's a little extra to help everything run smoothly so couples can fully enjoy their day.

And people remember, like I will with the cake. Lots of my work comes from recommendations by guests who've noticed the extra care I take on a wedding day.

It's a reminder that going the extra mile builds trust, creates memories, and keeps people coming back.

In wedding photography, the smallest elements can create the best stories.

Carefully chosen details reveal personality and create a deeper story for the entire day. This cool groom was a musician with a playful, edge, who brought red Converse trainers and braces, as well as a childhood toy car for a little nostalgic touch, and his even Marshall amp, which made the perfect backdrop!

Moments like these transform flat lays into authentic reflections of who the couple really are, and are the perfect way for a photographer to open the story of their day.

Twelve years ago today my daughter was born. I wasn't happy in my job, and she made me realise I needed to make a change. Capturing her early days gave me the push I needed. I stepped away from the corporate world and began the journey into photography.

So, I spent hours studying the masters, and I remember watching Jerry Ghionis on Youtube and feeling completely inspired. Fast-forward to today, and I’ve had the privilege of capturing over 400 wedding days and events, and I've loved telling the story of every one.

Over the years I’ve created a style that blends documentary storytelling with an editorial edge, creating images that feel natural,
honest and beautifully composed.
