Perched quietly above an Amazonian river, this Amazon Kingfisher waited patiently for the perfect moment to strike.

Despite their name, kingfishers aren’t always easy to find. Spotting this individual amongst the tangled riverside vegetation in Napo was a real highlight of my time in Ecuador.

What’s the most colourful bird you’ve ever seen in the wild?

I wasn’t prepared for the birds I found in Ecuador. 🇪🇨🐦

Mindo is famous for its birdlife, but seeing it for myself was something else. From tiny hummingbirds buzzing past at lightning speed to toucans perched in the canopy, every day brought a new surprise.

Which bird steals the show for you? 👇

POV: You’re a Marine Iguana in the Galápagos and you’ve just claimed the prime sunbathing rock. 🦎☀️🕺

What’s this iguana celebrating? Wrong answers only. 👇

Cloud forests, tiny birds, and one seriously over-the-top tail. 💙

This male Violet-tailed Sylph was photographed in Mindo, Ecuador. While most hummingbirds are content with being tiny flying jewels, this one apparently decided that wasn’t enough and grew tail feathers longer than its body.

Watching these birds zip through the forest is incredible, but every now and then one pauses long enough for a photo.

Nature doesn’t do subtle. ✨

🦎 “Excuse me, do you mind? I’m trying to photosynthesise.”

Marine iguanas spend their days diving into the Pacific Ocean to feed on algae before returning to the lava rocks to warm up. This particular one looked like he’d just finished a board meeting and wasn’t interested in answering any questions.

The Galápagos never disappoints when it comes to wildlife with attitude 😎🌋

Somewhere high in the Amazon canopy, this Many-banded Aracari sat still for approximately 4 seconds… which in rainforest bird photography terms is basically a lifetime. 🌿📸

Taken in the Napo region of Ecuador, surrounded by giant Cecropia leaves and the sounds of a rainforest that never really goes quiet.

Small toucan. Big personality. Questionable patience. 😅

Jungle daycare was in full swing when this little squirrel monkey decided lunch came before absolutely everything else 🐒🥛🌿

Photographed deep in the Napo rainforest of Ecuador, where every branch seemed to have another monkey family bouncing through the canopy. Trying to keep up with them while balancing in a boat was a challenge in itself… this mum made it look easy.

The waters off the Galápagos suddenly turned into absolute mayhem as blue-footed bo***es and pelicans started dive bombing all around us trying to catch fish.

One second they’re calmly floating… the next they’re folding themselves into feathered torpedoes and launching headfirst into the ocean at full speed.

The pelicans looked like they’d missed the briefing.
The bo***es looked like trained professionals.

Watching this in slow motion somehow makes it even more ridiculous 😂🐦🌊

Finally got round to editing my images from my recent trip to Ecuador, starting with this Napo saki monkey photographed right at the beginning of the trip in the Napo region of the Amazon rainforest.

This image was taken from a kayak while slowly exploring the flooded forest in search of wildlife. We spotted this saki high in the canopy casually watching us drift past with a piece of fruit stuffed in his mouth like we’d interrupted his lunch break.

The first of many images to come from an unforgettable trip through the Amazon.
