Growing up I was BMX obsessed, so bikes have always been more to me than just a mode of transport, to me they are creative tools to express yourself, challenge yourself and ultimately just have fun with! I think Iโll be into bikes for as long as I can ride them! But currently I live in a 1 bedroom flat and have to be sensible with how many I can own and I have drawn the line at 2 plus my girlfriends bike, so 3! Which already is pushing it for space here ๐ so when I decided I wanted to get into bike-packing I had a difficult decision to make: (since the BMX definitely stays and so does hers) sell my super high spec, aggressive hardtail and build up a gravel/touring bike with mounting points for cargo all over it, or adapt the bike I have somehow into a โbest of bothโ bike thatโs still ready for a shred at any given moment with minimal effort?
I picked the latter of course! With help from the Ortlieb Quick rack XL and their thru axle adapter I was able to get around the fact my frame lacks any rack mounts and still attach a rear rack, but the true beauty of this setup is that within literally 5 seconds or less the entire rack can be removed from the bike with 0 tools and the bike is ready to be thrown over dirt jumps and down black runs again!
I then rigged it up with various bags from and which can also be removed with minimal effort and voila! sheโs ready for anything! With an incredible 80 litres of storage space, far more than my 45L hiking backpack therefore more room for camera gear, camp luxuries, and even friends gear if they want to come along for the ride! Super happy with how itโs all turned out and canโt wait to explore further with my weekends ๐
Majority or the gear I used was purchased from , a Bristol based outdoor company stocking some of the best names in the business when it comes to the great outdoors so go check them out and if youโre not already familiar!! ๐๐ป๐๏ธ
