📍📸St Thomas becket church 🏰 What did this place look like 800 years ago?

Hidden away on Romney Marsh stands St Thomas Becket Church at Fairfield — one of the most iconic and atmospheric churches in Kent. ⛪️

Dating back to the late 12th century, this tiny church once stood at the heart of a medieval community. Today, it sits completely isolated among the fields, d***s and grazing sheep… with the houses of the original village long vanished.

Originally built using timber, wattle and daub, the church was later restored in the 18th century, when its walls were replaced with brick.

St Thomas becket church•Brookland ⛪️📸 St Thomas Becket is the most iconic of all the churches on Romney Marsh. The tiny building that dates back to the late 12th century sits isolated in a field cut through with d***s and grazed by sheep; the houses of the original medieval inhabitants of Fairfield have long since disappeared. Constructed with a wooden frame and walls of wattle and daub, the church was restored in the 18th century when the walls were replaced with bricks.
