For the last day on the southern trip documented in the last couple of posts, I started at Coffey's Cliff, overlooking the Chattanooga NS Yard and adjacent CSX line. Described as America's best freight train viewing spot, it certainly lived up to its name with near constant action.
From Chattanooga, after a brief stop at the famous "Choo Choo" hotel at the former Southern depot, I headed southwest to Bridgeport, Alabama, stopping along the Tennessee River for a combined CSX coal/grain train. At Bridgeport, I was fortunate enough to catch the Sequatchie Valley Railroad switching in their yard, eventually departing for a trip up their line. As a torrential rainstorm rolled through, a Nashville-bound CSX manifest made an appearance with CSX's two America 250 units on the point.
Leaving Bridgeport, I headed into Georgia, and down to the Atlanta area, making a stop in Marietta to catch a short intermodal and the Georgia Northeastern Railroad yard. With my flight out of ATL delayed, I was also able to explore the railroads in the airport's vicinity, finishing the day with a short CSX manifest heading south through Union City.
