New additions to the eBay store!

The classic "Fallen Flag" Western Maryland NW2 was one of Lionel's most puzzling locomotives, wearing a paint scheme featuring colors never seen on real Western Maryland locomotives. The locomotive was nonetheless relatively popular at release, and has since become quite collectable for its unique take on the Western Maryland.

The locomotive is in good shape. It has been stored either in a display cabinet or in its original box for most of its life, with very limited run time. Ran well during testing. No missing or broken parts. The locomotive and both cars will be shipped in full original packaging.

Les Canadiens à Philadelphie!

Between 11PM and 2AM on Tuesday night, CSX handed off 24 former Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (more recently rebranded as EXO) Comet II commuter cars from Montreal to SEPTA. These will be used to supplement SEPTA's existing locomotive-hauled fleet, being a short term solution to replace the canceled CRRC Multilevel order. Catching the hand-off was a rare chance to see these cars in their full AMT/EXO paint scheme while in the Philly area, complete with signs in french, and still wearing destination boards for the EXO Candiac Line.

Just across the river from northeastern Philadelphia, Pennsauken is the meeting point between the former PRSL mainline to Atlantic City, the main former PRR freight artery into Camden's Pavonia Yard, and the River Line light commuter rail service along the former Camden & Amboy right of way. Stayed a night at The Red Caboose Motel & Restaurant in Strasburg, PA, a couple of weeks ago. It’s something all railfans should do at least once.

The place has a lot of character, and many of the cabooses have recently been repainted. I kind of enjoyed seeing former PRR N5B and Reading Northeastern style cabooses painted for railroads such as the NP and ATSF that never had these cars.

A short afternoon stop at Cajon Pass sees a parallel BNSF intermodal and UP manifest climbing the grade at Cajon Junction/Mormon Rocks. The tracks were relatively quiet following this, although one more intermodal was caught heading east a few minutes later.

For the last day on the southern trip documented in the last couple of posts, I started at Coffey's Cliff, overlooking the Chattanooga NS Yard and adjacent CSX line. Described as America's best freight train viewing spot, it certainly lived up to its name with near constant action.

From Chattanooga, after a brief stop at the famous "Choo Choo" hotel at the former Southern depot, I headed southwest to Bridgeport, Alabama, stopping along the Tennessee River for a combined CSX coal/grain train. At Bridgeport, I was fortunate enough to catch the Sequatchie Valley Railroad switching in their yard, eventually departing for a trip up their line. As a torrential rainstorm rolled through, a Nashville-bound CSX manifest made an appearance with CSX's two America 250 units on the point.

Leaving Bridgeport, I headed into Georgia, and down to the Atlanta area, making a stop in Marietta to catch a short intermodal and the Georgia Northeastern Railroad yard. With my flight out of ATL delayed, I was also able to explore the railroads in the airport's vicinity, finishing the day with a short CSX manifest heading south through Union City.
