You know that specific moment after you’ve booked a shoot with Braithwaite Photography?

You’ve made the call. You’ve booked the date. You know now, that within a few days, you aren't just going to have "some photos", you know that you’re going to start your next meeting, pitch or socials post feeling like an absolute movie star.

Because that’s what a great session does. It isn't just about the lighting or the lens, it’s about the shift in how you feel about yourself and your brand.

And then, the gallery drops.

You click the link. You scroll through the first ten images, and the relief hits you. It’s that glorious Ron Burgundy feeling of, "Hey everybody, come see how good I Look!” moment.

You realise you don't have to worry about your profile picture for another year or two, you’ve got a bank of content that actually feels and looks like the real you, and you are now officially armed with everything you need to succeed, and then some.

That feeling? It’s not just vanity. It’s professional armour. You’re ready to open doors, make an impact, and get back to doing what you do best, without worrying about how you look doing it.

Stop waiting for the "perfect moment" to get camera-ready. Book the shoot. Get the photos. Feel like the star you already are.

Let’s get you in the calendar. Drop me a message and let's get that "everything I need" feeling booked in.

The "Content Drought" is real.

You’ve got a brilliant business, a great service, and plenty to say. But every time you go to write a post, you stall. Why? Because you don’t have a decent image to pair with it, and you're sick to death of using the same three stock photos of people shaking hands in a generic glass office.

Your audience wants to buy from you, not a stock gallery of models in Seattle (that others can use).

What if you could solve your content aesthetic for the next 3-6 months in just half a day?

Introducing the Braithwaite Photography Content Blitz.

This is a fast-paced, highly collaborative half-day shoot designed specifically for independent business owners, creatives, and consultants. We’ll meet at a great local spot (a textured café, your workshop, or the streets of Bristol) and shoot a massive variety of natural, candid, on-the-job images to suit your needs.

You’ll walk away with a curated bank of high-quality, authentic visual assets showing you brainstorming at your desk, having a relaxed client meeting or maybe grabbing a coffee in your element or just smouldering to camera.

Looking approachable, professional, and entirely like you.

Stop struggling for content. Let’s build your visual bank so you can post with absolute confidence.

I only have space for 3 'Content Blitz' sessions this month. DM me "BLITZ" to grab the details and pricing.

"I’ll book a photoshoot when I lose half a stone / get my hair sorted / buy a new suit."

I hear these excuses all the time. Honestly, I’ve probably made them myself.

We put off booking portraits because we are waiting for some future, "perfected" version of ourselves to show up. We think we need to look younger, fitter, or more polished before we deserve to be documented.

But here’s the cold, hard truth: Your loved ones, your clients, and your colleagues don't want a Photoshopped mannequin. They want you.

They want the laugh lines you’ve earned, the warmth in your eyes, and the genuine, authentic presence you bring to the table right now.

When you look back at old photos of your parents or grandparents, do you wish they’d lost five pounds before the shutter clicked? Of course you don't. You’re just incredibly glad that the moment was captured.

The "perfect time" is a myth. You are ready right now.

I have three slots left for portrait sessions in June. Let’s capture who you are today, imperfections, character and all.

Drop me a PM, and let’s get you booked in. No prep, no pressure, just you.

The best thing about being a documentary-style photographer is the freedom to roam.

The ability to travel light and go wherever the work takes you. I have a specially developed, slimmed down set up, that means I can grab just one bag and be out the door in a matter of minutes. I am well-versed in adapting to any environment to get the best out of any subject.

It's rock 'n' roll photography. Spontaneous, exhilarating and leaves me free as a bird to follow the story as it unfolds. Just the way I like it.

So, do you have an adventure planned that needs to be documented? Is your event heavily reliant on having a photographer that can capture great images on the fly? Do you need someone who can get right into the thick of it at a moments notice and give you results that really capture the feels?

Are you ready for your next adventure?

Because we are.

When was the last time three generations of your family were in the same photo? (And no, a chaotic Sunday roast selfie doesn't count.)

We often take photos of our kids. We might even occasionally convince our partners to stand still for a picture. But we rarely capture the grand, beautiful sweep of the entire family tree.

Our parents are getting older, our kids are growing up at a terrifying rate, and we are stuck in the middle, busy keeping all the plates spinning and the lights on.

In the rush of daily life, we forget that the moments we spend together right now are the history our kids will look back on fondly in thirty years.

A multi-generational family session isn't about stiff, coordinated outfits or standing in a neat line. It’s about capturing the quiet, knowing look between granddad and granddaughter, the chaotic laughter of a family walk, or the warmth of three generations of hands held together.

This isn’t just a photoshoot. It’s a quiet act of rebellion against time. It’s creating an heirloom that your children's children will treasure.

I’m booking outdoor, relaxed family sessions for the summer season now. Let’s get the whole gang together and make something timeless.

"You are the writer and the star in the movie of your life."

It sounds poetic. Inspiring. It also sounds like a recipe for a straight-to-DVD disaster film if you’re trying to do it all yourself.

Let’s be real. You can have the most Oscar-worthy life story in the world, but if your Director’s last hit was “Zombie Chicks in Chopper Town III”, your Director of Photography is a shaky iPhone leaned against a coffee mug on the dashboard of your car and your Lighting Designer is the flickering office bulb of an angle-poise lamp, no one is watching.

And if they do watch? Well, darling, you want to look like the lead Actor in an Academy nominated hit, not the "Non-Player Character" in a lame video game.

Whether it’s for a headshot that actually opens doors (and doesn't look like a mugshot) an album cover that screams "Grammy" before the first note plays, or social media content that stops the scroll (for the right reasons)...get it right. Hire a crew you can trust to handle the technical bits while you focus on being fabulous.

Because at the end of the day, you ARE the star. Isn't it time you looked like one?

Give us a call. Let’s make sure the story of your life looks like a Blockbuster, not a Blooper Reel.

I finally went to see 'Wes Anderson: The Archives' at The Design Museum in London during the Easter holidays, and honestly, it’s a masterclass of delightful design.

For anyone who appreciates the meticulous design, obsessive detail, and iconic colour palettes that define his films, this exhibition is an absolute must-see. Seeing the physical exhibits up close reminds you just how much craft goes into every single frame of his work.

As a photographer, it’s hard not to be inspired by that level of intentionality. Seeing the actual objects used to create those gorgeous compositions reminded me of the importance of the "micro-details" that the viewer might not consciously notice, but which contribute to the overall atmosphere and "soul" of a photograph.

LinkedIn only allows me to share 9 snapshots here, but for the true enthusiasts, I’ve put together a much more in-depth look at what I’d call a "Wes geek’s wet dream" over on my website.

The exhibition is only on until the 26th July, so get yourself down there and thank me later.

Let’s be honest: for most people, the phrase "family portrait" conjures up images of stiff collars, forced smiles, dreary backdrops and the lingering dread of being told to "look at the camera and act natural" while feeling anything but.

But it doesn't have to be a trap.

Why settle for formulaic, ordinary, and frankly awkward group shots in a sterile studio? Your family isn't a stock photo, so why should your memories look like one?

At Braithwaite Photography, we’re doing things differently. Think of us as the Rebel Alliance of the portrait world. We’re here to help you strike back against the dark side of badly posed, soul-sucking photography.

Your story should be told, your way, on your territory. So, instead of a backdrop that looks like a shower curtain, why not choose a place you actually love? Your favourite weekend walk, a treasured seaside spot, a local landmark, or even just hanging out in your own garden.

When you’re in a place that means something to you, the awkwardness vanishes. The masks drop. You stop "posing" and start just being.

My goal is to capture your family exactly as you are. Uniquely, wonderfully, and occasionally chaotically yourselves. I’m looking for the genuine moments that happen when you forget there’s a lens involved.

So, don't venture to the dark side of boring photography. Choose the rebellion. Choose images that actually feel like home.

Remember, the photos will be with you…always. So you best make them good ones. Let’s talk

Today marks the release of the highly anticipated new book, Caller Unknown, by the incredible Gillian McAllister.

For me, this means another author portrait is hitting the shelves, not just here in the UK, but across the pond and beyond. It is still a genuine thrill to know that my work will be in the hands of millions of readers worldwide.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Gillian and the team at Penguin Random House for continuing to trust me with these portraits. It’s a privilege to be a small part of such a massive global launch.

By all accounts and early reviews, this is one of Gillian’s best yet. If you’re looking for your next gripping read, grab a copy from today!

Wishing you the very best of luck with the launch, Gillian.

The Supporting Cast: Why Backgrounds Matter

Think about your favourite TV show. Everybody loves the lead actor, they’re the reason the show got green-lit, but what good is a show where all the other characters are... ‘meh’?

If the supporting cast isn't up to scratch, or if they don’t complement and balance the story arc of the protagonist, the show is dead in the water. It doesn't matter how good the script is; without a decent setting and a believable background, no one will buy into the story.

I think of photography in exactly the same way.

Your subject may be the star of the show, but they need the right scene behind them. The background needs to be interesting enough to balance the narrative of the main character, without ever stealing the spotlight. It sets the tone and builds the world, while leaving you in no doubt as to who the star is.

As a documentary-style photographer, the world is my backdrop. I’m constantly on the lookout for new locations that could serve as the perfect "ready-made" set dressing for a shoot.

So, I have two questions for you:

Do you know of any hidden gems or unique spots I should check out for a future session?

Is there somewhere you’ve always imagined having your own portrait taken?

Let me know in the comments, and let’s see what we can make this happen.

(These pictures were taken scouting for gritty backgrounds for the portraits I took of the author Tim Weaver for his new David Raker book "The Lost Women" which is out now)
