Back to civilisation after a few weeks off the grid in the temperate rainforests of Alaska filming for an exciting new doc (watch this space).

These pictures show an oil refinery that is part of a ghost town lost deep in the forest. All the machinery is rusting away as nature reclaims the area.

This was my first time in Alaska but it definitely won’t be my last.

The last thing that a small woodland bird might ever see. This is a male sparrow hawk, and the brilliance of those yellow eyes always get me!

These woodland predators are small but fearsome. Not baited.

Spent some time in California this month, and saw my first ever whales! This is a humpback's fluke, in front of the mountains, during a day I'll not forget anytime soon.

A very 'bored' looking, young rhino photographed in South Africa this year.

We'd just come across this youngster and an adult resting up against a termite mound, and he was giving great big sighs that blew up the dust around him.

I love the look on his face!

These courting puffins look a little shy, don't you think?

They have a lovely display, similar to that of the gannet, where they will bat their beaks together.
