www.davidjeffery-hughesphotography.uk I first started taking pictures when I was around 13 years old. I was drawn to making work based around architectural and social history due to discovering a collection of historical images of Bristol put together by l
ocal photographer, Reece Windstone. Bedminster was so vibrant and interesting it trained me to be on the constant lookout for potential images. I was aware that the fast-paced nature of the area meant that in years to come it wouldn’t look the same and I instinctively had to document what I was seeing. Since 2016, I have had the opportunity to capture events at some of the top venues in the UK. Starting from Thekla in Bristol and moving into various clubs and events in London ranging from the O2 Academy Brixton, Oslo Hackney, The Garage Islington and most of West London. After doing so for 4 years I wanted to broaden my reach and impact in the world of photography. I have almost completed my MA in photography which has given me the chance to explore less commercially based work. After COVID grinding the world to a halt I suddenly found myself trapped in the small seaside town of Portishead, my home since 2018. Being tied to a single place and having more time observe the area around me. Much like I had done when I was younger but now, with a lot more life experience, ideas and views on the world. Over 2020 I have developed two new projects which study youth, politics and current affairs. Both of the projects depict the two sides of my style. ‘It’s Later Than You Think’ captures my passion for events photography and ‘You’ll Never Leave’ documents a poignant moment in my personal history. I am hoping to release these projects as photo books very soon.
