We've changed our name! We're now Trans Portraits Collective, instead of Trans Portraits UK!
What I want to do with the project has evolved a lot over the past year. I find myself more and more interested in building opportunities for trans photographers, creating ways for us to connect, and fostering a sense of community amongst us all - even when we’re physically spread across the country. Trans Photography Collective reflects those objectives more accurately.
Our current name - Trans Portraits UK - honestly always felt a bit like a placeholder. I chose it when I decided to expand Bristol Trans Portraits beyond Bristol, and at the time essentially couldn’t think of anything better!
The trans portraits project and magazine will still be up and running, and will be a big part of the collective’s work; I’m hugely proud of it, and would really like to get more trans photographers involved with it if I can.
I envisage that, over time, trans portraits will become one of a few different projects that the collective works on. For example, in the immediate future I’ll also continue to maintain the new trans photographers directory, and seek to make as many organisers, LGBTQ groups and arts organisations as possible aware of us.
Here are a few other things I’d like to do with the collective:
Photowalks & other social events for trans photographers (both professional & hobbyist)
Workshops and mentorship schemes
Create opportunities for early-career trans photographers to gain experience
Exhibitions
If you have any suggestions for anything else you’d like to see, drop me a DM or leave me a comment!
As with anything, a lot of this kind of stuff will be funding dependent, so if you’re interested in what the collective is doing, please consider supporting us on Patreon - link is in the bio!
I’ll be properly changing our website and Patreon over the next few weeks to reflect the new name and new aims. Looking forward to building something new! 😊
