Tucked away in a green corner of West Dorset my sister has been busy making. Combining her love for plants & Ceramics into the creation of beautiful pots, jugs & mugs.
Having been forced to set up production in her little summer house, thanks to Covid, she's not let lack of space hold her back. Jug after jug adornes every available surface, having survived the gauntlet of kiln & glaze.
Here at home, enjoying the natural light & a view to her beautifully tended garden she's never short of inspiration.
I arrive minutes before the heavens open. She quickly picks a handful of flowers to brighten up the dull lit space. We brush & shiver off the rain, sheltering together with the resident spider, who's undisturbed web collects old seeds in the corner.
It's a beautiful honest, personal space. No fuss. A perfect hideaway from the day to day. Shelves full of treasures, piles of old magazines & past birthday cards surround you & her handmade crochet bunting & wood cladding gives you a beach hut holiday feeling

Clay cut & rolled out, then left to harden a little, I focus in as Joy starts to gently press each delicate fresh stem in preparation, with a small roller, making stupidly uneasy mini snaps & crunches.
Soft dried seed heads collected from a cornish hedgerow sit gently lit by the window, waiting to be sown in spring & in time adding to her collection of specimens to press & capture in clay for years to come.
She places carefully selected stems artfully onto the newly rolled thin slab. Then comes the big rolling pin & the exciting bit. She rolls the plants gently in, just deep enough to leave an impression. Cautiously peeling them away, a fossil like impression is left behind akin to the simple pleasure of childish leaf rubbings.
Leaving her to work I dash quickly to the greenhouse & listen to the rain hammering against the old glass whilst breathing in the smell of earth & tomatoes. Once the rain eases slightly I run back to the summerhouse to find Joy now working with off cuts of clay, using treasured lace from our late Great Aunts fabric remnants to print delicate patterns onto future spouts. Lastly & quietly she hand makes each handle, one by one smoothing out the blunt edges with her fingerstips. It doesn't get more handmade than this. Every part of the 'making' is unique & personal.

This little had me wading through mountains of spiky thistles this morning to retrieve him 😖 on a 🐇 hunt. No matter what u do, when this has his eye on something you might as well just sit back, put life on hold, until he gets bored. He's a pickle at times but how can you stay angry with that face

These pics were taken at our 2nd Airbnb holiday home which we wont forget in a hurry. So peaceful, surrounded by beautiful Cornish countryside.
Holly reluctantly came for a little wander with me. As soon as I encouraged her to pick a few wild flowers to make a little posy she soon perked up. She loved them so much she insisted we took them all the way back to Dorset
