Clarkson Photography is based in the Comox Valley, Canada. Hi everyone! My name is Katie Clarkson. I am a photographer from Vancouver Island, Canada.

Specializing in actor's headshots, Katie Clarkson also provides children, family, and couples photography. I have been running my business, taking portraits since i was 15, specializing in children's fine art photography, where the portrait tells a story, makes you wonder, and captures a mood. I always strive for my work to become a treasured piece that will be handed down generation to generation.

The Valley is beautiful no matter what time of year it is, but this stretch right here is my favourite.

Everything gets so lush. The greens get deeper, and the air just feels different this time of year. You can feel spring in it, even later in the evening.

I love getting back outside for sessions like this. Wandering around, chasing good light, and seeing where the evening takes us.

A couple quick things people have been asking:

Can I bring my dog?
Absolutely!!! Please do.

What kind of session can I book?
Families, couples, grads, maternity, just the kids running around outside… all of that fits perfectly for these.

Daffodil Sessions are back this May.

They’re always a mix of families, couples, grads… a bit of everything.

Grad day itself fills up quickly every year, but doing photos early is usually the move. Way less pressure, way more breathing room… so why not now, and support a good cause while you’re at it.

A couple quick things people usually ask:

Where are these happening?
This year everything is at Puntledge Park, so we get forest, river, and a ton of variety all in one spot.

Why “Daffodil”?
No, these aren’t in fields of daffodils (though if I ever find one, we’re absolutely going). The daffodil is the symbol of the Canadian Cancer Society, and more broadly represents hope and new beginnings, which felt like it fits just right.

I can honestly never make up my mind.

I have a family session
“these are my favourites! I want to do them all the time!”

I have a portrait session
“I really like connecting with someone one-on-one, and then I have the privilege of showing them just how beautiful they are. I want to do mostly portraits!”

I do a headshot session
“Look! Look! Look! I can totally see them paying BLANK role. I hope they get so much work from these. I only want to do this!”

It’s a tough go, doing what you love, and finding the beauty in everything 🤣

Daffodil Sessions are back!!

I have been WAITING to say that.

I plan these every year, and every year I forget how much goes into them until I’m right back in it again. But I also know they’re one of the most meaningful things I do.

They’re short outdoor sessions. Nothing complicated. Just you, your people, and actually being in the photos for once.

Families, couples, kids, your dog, your horse. Bring whoever makes your life feel like yours.

And every session fee is donated to the Canadian Cancer Society, which is a big part of why these exist in the first place.

Can you believe how warm it got this week?! I'm not going to say what I want to, because I will definitely jinx it....

Back shooting in the valley again and it feels so good. Out working with people, chasing good light, and just letting things roll. (This wasn't quite the Valley, we were in Parksville, but still on the island so it counts!)

Everything’s starting to bloom, and I’ve got something coming up that means a lot to me that I’m really excited to bring back.

The last few months have been so full, in the best possible way.

I’m still deep in colour grading the documentary from Zimbabwe, so I can’t share much yet (I know, I keep saying this), but it’s been a huge part of my world for the last six months.

Then photographing some incredible businesses and people and spending more time with my family in England than I have in years, and honestly just being right in it all and it still feeling like home.

Going from rolling hills to mountains, between two places I feel really connected to, has been a bit surreal.

Coming back to the valley this time has felt like a reset, kind of. It feel like I never left, but also a lifetime. I am rebuilding my routine, catching up with people, and figuring out my rhythm again.

And now I’m back in the Comox Valley and getting into sessions again!

I’ve missed this place.

And I’m really excited to be back in it.
